The best in the FF series in quite a while.

I was hesitant to get ARR, as I have been severely disappointed in the Final Fantasy series since X and X-2. However, I went ahead and signed up for the Beta, and have been going over since.

Visually, everything looks great. Spells/abilities look good, but are not too over the top. Landscape is gorgeous. City layouts leave a little something to be desired at times, luckily you can teleport around for efficient travel within.

The story is too generic. When you start off, you're just a random adventurer who has just come to (insert starting city). There is no back story on your class and/or race. You just come into being and there you are. No matter what race or class you are.

The interface takes some getting used to. This game was meant more for PC than PS3. When you first start off, the entire HUD is just awkward. Targeting is a bit of a pain when there are multiple enemies and/or players around you. Once you get used to it, though, it flows a little better.

Job system is back! This is one thing I love/hate about this game. I love that the job system is back for your class. However, the crafting/gathering classes are now in, too. These can be helpful if you could select only a few, but no. You can pick up ALL of them. It's not one at a time, either. It's all at once at level 10. It's a bit overwhelming when all of a sudden you have so many things you can start grinding. I plan to focus on those later, and just level my class, for now. For those of you who ever played World of Warcraft, these jobs will seem VERY familiar.

No voice chat. This is my biggest irk with the game. I understand that it's cross-platform, however a simple in-game voice chat would work. As it stands now, there is no voice chat, which means PC players have to rely on something like Vent, and PS3 players are pretty much SOL. I have a wireless keyboard for my PS3, which enables me to at least partially engage in chat, however that doesn't work too well in the middle of party combat to stop and type.

All in all, a very good game that I plan to enjoy for some time, and a better addition to the final fantasy series than has been seen in quite a while.
