Looking a few on ebay right now. I'm willing to spend about $30-50.
My only specifications are that it must be:
-Backlit. Color doesn't matter, however looks are always a plus.
-Slim, easy to move and fit in my lap comfortably while playing.
-USB, wired. I don't want to worry about my battery dying during long play sessions.
-Compact/Full is a tossup.
Compact would fit easier in my lap, however I can use a number pad, naturally.
If full keyboard support is implemented in the (far) future of FFXIV, then I would want a full keyboard.
-Durability. This keyboard will get a lot of use. I don't want keys wearing or my crazy dogs knocking off keys...
Does anybody have any recommendations of keyboards that they are currently using?
Right now I'm looking at this one:

Battery last for over 7months in a keyboard, unless you buy the cheapest brand, then i would guess 4month max, so i would go wireless if i were you.
As for keyboard, i use a microsoft keyboard, bought 30$

Oh wow, I didn't think it would last THAT long, wireless would be preferred then, if the price was right.
I really think that this one would be perfect. It is just SO damn expensive.
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Illuminated-Keyboard-K800/dp/B003VAGXWKI want something that feels right typing on, and I just know that it would be good. If it was $30 cheaper, I would be sold.

No, but I plan on playing in the dark a lot. I don't really need to look while typing, but if necessary, it is there bold and bright.

I highly doubt that cheap keyboard will die in 4 months or less.

I never got the batteries on my Mac keyboard to last 7 months. They probably last 4 months (or less).
EDIT:
From: NoctisEternal | Posted: 2/5/2013 8:38:26 PM | #007m concerned about lifetime battery use. How long will a backlit wireless one last (with heavy use) before it needs replacing... If it is less than 5 years, the K800 isn't worth it.
If backlit means that each key will have lights so you can see in the dark I'm betting that batteries on those keyboards last a lot less than 4 months.

The K800 has a lithium ion battery that is non-removable. A full charge can last up to 10 days with minimal backlighting. I was thinking about the total lifetime of these batteries. Generally they last quite a while, degrading slowly over time. If it ever did crap out completely, I guess I could always play wired.

Ah, then I imagine a keyboard like that will last you a very long while.

I went out last night and bought a Logitech K810...
And honestly I think that it is the perfect keyboard for me, and I would recommend it to anybody that is looking for a keyboard to use with FFXIV.
PROS:
slim (easy to store),
great looking (especially in the dark...),
perfect lap size,
wireless (bluetooth is easy to manage on the ps3),
doesn't interfere with controller play (slightly tested it already),
has adjustable backlight settings (the minimum setting is more than enough lighting),
long charges if minimal backlighting is used (not tested yet, lasts up to a year w/o backlight),
keyboard feels great to type on (I can type about 50-60 words/min).
You can also use it with 3 total bluetooth devices that each have their own designated key.
The only bad thing about it is the price, at $80.
I figured that it will get a lot of use, so why not get a keyboard that I LOVE, and will last a long while. I would rather do that than have something I hate typing on, or will break in a years time.
