A nice treat for the eyes and mind, but not too much thinking is involved.

User Rating: 8.5 | Final Fantasy XIII PS3
Final Fantasy XIII was a massive disappointment to some people, as it's not as vast or as challenging. That can be good or bad depending on how you like to play your games. The gameplay is pretty simple, but the story is very touching and great, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense sometimes. The visuals are the best part of this game, and if you're looking for eye candy, pick this game.

The good:
-Probably the best graphics in any JRPG ever made. Everything looks fantastically crafted and detailed, every colour is perfect. The CGI scenes are almost too brief for how stunning they look.
-A great story, even if it does have some unexplained information by the end or an odd turn of events.
-Gameplay is very simple, but can be satisfying and is very flashy.
-Characters are dynamic and unique, but not the best the Final Fantasy series has to offer.
-The music is diverse and perfectly fits each scene. It sounds different than most other Final Fantasy games, but it's almost perfect.

The bad:
-Awful linear area layout, even if every bit of scenery is stunning.
-Gameplay can get boring since easy battle sequences will consist of pressing X repeatedly, and nothing else.
-Easy for a while, but random difficulty spike towards the end will require lots of grinding to tackle.
-Some plot points/scenes needed more elaboration and when you think deep after playing, the story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and the complexity can be a bit overwhelming when looking in detail. This will require lots of Datalog reviewing in the in-game menu.

Final Fantasy XIII is fantastic, and shouldn't be missed. It isn't quite an RPG as it is an action adventure game... but take the game for what it is, and it's a very pleasant experience, and it's easy on the eyes.
