The fan denial about Fang & Vanille ...
The fan denial about Fang & Vanille is humorous. (spoilers?)

- Jan 26, 2013 6:55 pm GMTI'm 10 chapters in my first playthrough, so I google the burning question.
Considering Fang was originally male and anyone familiar with Lif and Lifthrasir, to say they aren't insinuating lovers is some serious homophobia.
I respect that apparently it's never directly said, but anyone with any iota of intelligence knows that it is the case. Kudos for Square on the gender change to Fang. - Jan 26, 2013 8:21 pm GMTDamn son, look at this new and exciting topic! Fresh beats for days!

Seven. Point. Five. - Jan 27, 2013 9:30 am GMTCall it denial, but I do not believe they are anything more than close friends and the last surviving members of their world, leading to their (platonic) relationship.

How long has CM Punk been champion?
http://howlonghaspunkbeenchamp.com - Jan 27, 2013 3:51 pm GMTI don't know if they're lovers or not but it certainly looks something like that, haha. If that's the case, then Square didn't have to go and be so subtle about it. It's 2013 and anyone who still has a problem with homosexuality needs to get off my planet. There's no room for discrimination. If I were Square and you had a problem with that in my game, then I wouldn't want you playing my games anyway.

I understand the whole issue of losing money and fans... I'm just saying. My burning hate for racial/sexual discrimination just had a flare up for a second.

"When darkness is all you see, this is our sweet blasphemy" - Jan 27, 2013 9:23 pm GMTPeople forget theres this very, VERY fine line between friendship and romantic love. It is easy to confuse the two. I for one, think they are lesbians but people aren't picking up on it. The two of them joined as one (what supposedly "joins" to people as one? you heard the noises
(im kidding about that last part), merged their wills and saved a falling "planet", and then they show them holding hands and crystalized TOGETHER. They also help each other mature during the game, that happens in relationships no? Somewhat? so I think that's another indication. Vanille reminds Fang of what is right and to have more empathy, for example, in that final battle when she turns back into herself, and I think Fang gives Vanille the strength to not run away or at least be serious about some things.
That's what I think. And no I don't think this is because she was originally planned as male, I think even though she was female they went for it regardless. There were too many "intimate" scenes with each other, more than say, Hope and Lighting. The story is also parallel to the struggle of LGBT people in some parts of this world, with the l'Cie thing, at least that's what I felt. Maybe there were subtle tones here and there about it. Which I think is great. - Jan 28, 2013 12:51 am GMTI personally would side with Anghellickarma, but I guess it all depends on your personal opinions and how you view a situation
- Jan 28, 2013 7:03 am GMTIts obvious to me they're lovers. I knew nothing about the game on my first playthrough, and when their relationship started developing and they were talking about each other, I knew right away they were more than friends. Heck, their reunion scene made my heart race and gave me butterflies! "Friend" scenes don't do that. Though, I feel kinda angry at Square for making the only 2 queer characters sacrifice themselves for the sake of the world. Why can't they live happily every after too (not incased in crystal)?

This. There is more chemistry between Sora and Riku in Kingdom Hearts than there is between Vanille and Fang.

Final Fantasy: 10>13>7>12>4>1>2>10-2>11 - Jan 28, 2013 9:40 pm GMTAs much as I'd like to see a pair of homosexual characters in a relationship who aren't completely defined as "a pair of homosexual characters in a relationship", I'm not really convinced that Fang and Vanille are that pairing. They're definitely closer than any other same-sex pairing I can think of from SE (besides maybe SoraxRiku, never played much KH so I don't know), but it's difficult to say if they cross the line into an actual romantic relationship.
Then again, it makes sense that a homosexual relationship would be somewhat more subdued than a straight one, especially in a "tame" series like FF. So it does make sense that they would create Fang and Vanille as lesbians but never outright state it so that people who don't want to think of them as gay don't have to. But that also can get spun in reverse; people read gay relationships into friendships and even enemies all the time.
I guess what I'm getting at is that, since homosexual relationships in mainstream games can't develop the same way that, say, Tidus and Yuna or Squall and Rinoa did, that they have to be "disguised" as friendships, and that naturally makes the two too difficult to distinguish to say that they are absolutely, positively one or the other.
...Wow, that got rambly. So on a funnier note, I accidentally spelled out "Hojosexual" once. Heyyyy, doc, it's time for my shot. *wink*

You can wax my huge spoon. - Jan 30, 2013 2:07 pm GMTIt might be true, but it might not. The game never spells it out either way. The truth is that people see what they want to see. Most folks who insist that they must be lovers only say that because they get their own jollies by imagining it.

I only googled it because I was impressed with SE. - Jan 31, 2013 2:53 pm GMTlolwut

No, there's nothing rational about this. People only believe it because they want to.
And by the way, atheists are no more rational than anyone else. I know, because I am one.

TC, just because you think you're right doesn't mean everyone is "denying" it...it just means we have different views.

- Feb 2, 2013 7:05 pm GMTWell if you're only on Chapter 10 you won't have seen the romantic scenes between one of the girls and another character that are very important in the sequel.
Please play the entire game before judging a community who already knows the entire story. - Feb 3, 2013 5:28 am GMTHope has feelings for Vanille... who is shocked and embarrassed. Neither Fang nor Vanille show any interest in anyone besides each other in the game. Fang refers to her as her "partner" (not friend) to Lightning. Frankly, Fang is so butch that it's unimaginable to see her paired with a man. I think it's interesting how invested people are in them NOT being together - what's at stake for you? Since Square hasn't made an official statement, it's up to each of us what we want to believe. It;s not necessary to insult those who don't agree with your opinion, though.

...? I thought he was lying to make them even for all the lies she told him? Or are you saying that he really does have feelings for her but pretended to be lying when she didn't return them?

You can wax my huge spoon. - Feb 3, 2013 12:42 pm GMT^^ In_Kemmer's point is how Vanille reacted, not whether Hope was really being honest.
