- Jul 30, 2012 6:44 pm GMTSazh can buff bravery, faith, haste, vigilance, as well as en-...fire, frost, thunder, and water. He can bar-...fire, frost, thunder, and water.
Well, at least my Sazh can. His crystarium is as maxed at this stage as possible.
You're right in saying i'm not taking into consideration average players. BUT...my beliefs are that this is a game you should not play 'average'. To finish this game in anything under a few hundred hours is demeaning to the whole FF series. ONLY IF...you already played it, and are challenging yourself to a second game with handicaps should you run through it quickly.

"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 30, 2012 7:59 pm GMTI thought I'd give myself a challenge...mission 30 Syphax...
2,014,000 hp and before he arrives, you have to deal with a TON of his minions; Numidia that each have 17,600 hp.
YES I used shrouds. But, i'll do this fight a few more times just to try different things...
Time to beat: 8:40
My time: 1:33
Need I say "5 star."

"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 30, 2012 8:06 pm GMTTetradic Tiara gives you Protect, Shell, Veil, and Vigilance. The first three are the only three buffs that aren't on Sazh's list right now.
I have a completely opposite approach to RPGs. I like to stick to the storyline and ignore sidequests/grinding as much as possible my first time through the game so that bosses and whatnot are actually challenging. Then on my second and later playthroughs I'll look at completing all of the optional content.
For Syphax, try controlling Lightning, giving her the Enkindler, and spamming Ruinga. And don't bother with shrouds--you won't need them ^_~
t~ - Jul 30, 2012 8:19 pm GMTI didn't think I needed the shrouds, but hell, I have 90 of each so why not.

Juggernauts are near impossible for the average party. You are stupidly overleveled. You are barely supposed to have base level T2 weapons at that point, if even that. Don't complain that they're easy >.>
Well, they're near impossible unless you know exactly how to handle the fight. At which point they can be killed at sub-"normal" (no grinding) development levels, although you're likely to need a Phoenix Down or two.
Basically, equip fire resistance and physical damage resistance and use Snow (equip Paladin) leading Vanille and Sazh. Open with Premeditation so Sazh can Barfire the party and Vanille can stick a debuff. Any debuff. Then use Protection to stay alive while Sazh continues to buff until it uses Steam Clean. Get in a few rounds of Tri-disaster while it's doing nothing, and then repeat. You'll want Matador for sticking debuffs after Sazh applies all the buffs, Solidarity for staying alive while maintaining chain, and Aggression for once you stagger it. You need to stagger-cancel Steam Clean and launch it ASAP, and then keep it juggled.
The fight goes faster if you control Sazh (his Blitz is great against Juggernaut), but you run a much higher risk of dying to its double arm slam (which is the only dangerous attack after you get Barfire up). Snow with Mediguard/Steelguard will survive it no problem, but the others are likely to die if it hits them (thus the Phoenix Downs I mentioned).
t~
edit: oh, at super low development, you can beat the fight by replacing Sazh with Hope and adding Protect to your defenses, but this slows you down a ton and requires much more precise timing.
I said average party implying average development and knowledge of the game. (i.e.- someone on their first playthrough who hasn't consulted a guide)

-Zan- - Jul 30, 2012 8:38 pm GMTI never grind, but I always end up doing too much. I compensate by finding challenge in doing things far before I am supposed to.
At the rate I'm going, I think I might hit the CP cap before I get to Stage 9.
---
CWLSIV - Jul 30, 2012 8:43 pm GMTHey Des...i've been capped since I got to chapter 11. In a way it stinks because the prices for the next two crystarium levels are going to sap all my cp.
Not that I don't mind grinding more (LMAO).
---
"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 30, 2012 8:48 pm GMTWell I'm only leveling one role per character. I'm going to have enough CP to max Stage 9 Crystarium for my game as soon as it unlocks.
That will be a pleasant power boost.
---
CWLSIV - Jul 30, 2012 9:37 pm GMTI may consider a second run through when im done. If I do though, I'll want a challenge so I wont grind like im doing now. I'll put limits on each chapter and see how I fair. Give myself sort of a handicap.

"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 30, 2012 9:43 pm GMTjuggernaut r probable gona be hard in the chalenge i do. i do no sentinal, synergist, medic or potions. sentinal.
i currently stuck at havoc skytank but when i get to pulse i will try jugg. - Jul 31, 2012 2:49 am GMTI thought you said you could use Sazh's buffs? With those, you can definitely kill a Juggernaut eventually, although probably not when you first get to Mah'habara. Without an offensive Synergist, it's going to take some serious upgrades.
t~ - Jul 31, 2012 3:07 am GMTI utilised the bar element buffs on top of Protect + Shell, Poison + heal/debuff spam and finished with Poison/Gestalt with Vanille as lead
Well of course I had to wait until I had Heca before I went back and did the first Juggernaut
I think I might have also invested in Tortoise

Official "Vanille" of the Dissidia Duodecim boards - Jul 31, 2012 10:04 am GMTreally FFMaster, you seem to be obscenely overleveled in like every FF game ever, and obviously have no qualms with spending 49875340592457+ hours in each area, so you should really consider doing a challenge in one of these games. You can still grind for a really long time, but it will prevent the combat from becoming boring and easy. It changes the dynamic from: I've grinded so now the game is really easy, to: I've grinded so now the game is fun challenging and possible
- Jul 31, 2012 11:50 am GMTFoo...a little over exaggerated with the amount of hours, but you're correct. I don't necessarily play like others. For me to state that I entered the Steppe maxed fully in the crystarium and have what I have, to me, is better than saying "I got to the Steppe with a Dirk and a Cloth Shield." I can say that I got to the Steppe with 5,000,000 gil and level 2* weapons for every character.
To be able to say I have "an item" or "x amount of gil" at the earliest part of the game is my claim to fame.
I don't know of anyone in here that grindes Vanille and Hope, right in the beginning of the game, and came out with exactly 1,000,000 gil...NO ONE. (period) Yes I grinder for exactly 60.00.00, but who could say they did...NO ONE. (period) I can though.

"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 31, 2012 2:19 pm GMT"I started the Steppe at 700.00 hours"
WTF dude. when i am President of Videogames you will not be allowed to play this much or your PS3 will self-destruct - Jul 31, 2012 2:52 pm GMTMParker...I know. I thought once I wanted to be a professional VGT (video game tester) but I knew the game would already be out on the shelves by the time I got done testing it. Lol.
Yup...exactly 700:00:00. I like even numbers.
When I grinded in the Vestige with Vanille and Hope, I grinded for 60:00:00 hours. I left with exactly 1,000,000 gil and over 90 of each shroud.

"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 31, 2012 5:38 pm GMTJust took on mission 52...Zirnitra...what a jerk. 2,475,000 hp.
Anyway...target time of 5:01. My time 0:59 - 5* yes with shrouds.
---
"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Jul 31, 2012 5:47 pm GMTUPDATE...mission 52 is now a joke. New time 0:29.
---
"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Aug 1, 2012 7:29 pm GMTI'm ranting and raving again so I apologize, but why does Mission 34 give you a 16:27 target time? Ridiculous...I'm averaging 0:55 per battle.
---
"Without your vision, none of us would be here Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi." - Aug 1, 2012 7:52 pm GMTThe Tonberry you fight in that mission is capable of fully healing itself, and each time it does it gets stronger and more dangerous. Taking it out before it starts that cycle is definitely the way to go, but not everyone can do that as easily as you did.
