- Jan 4, 2013 3:23 pm GMTI don't see why all the negativity. I started with vii-x then played the old school ones and I love them all. Glad I kept reading the board to find the good comments. Can't wait until chapter 11.
- Jan 4, 2013 7:55 pm GMTGet to the end boss of Ch. 11. Then you'll wish you waited... RAGE.
On a related note, if you start having trouble, when you get to an area called Taejin's Tower, look for a group of five or six Pulsework Gladiators in a room together, and try to get a preemptive strike. They'll fall in nothing flat, netting you an easy 8000 CP. You can get them to respawn by waiting a minute or two, then going up the nearby stairs. Convieniently, there is a save point on the stairs.

Final fantasy would not be complete without rage....I still hate emerald weapon from VII. Thanks for the tip! - Jan 5, 2013 5:41 am GMTThat's cool you like it right out the gate. I did too. I got this game a few months ago and wondered the same thing (about the negativity, starting off boring etc.). The cool part is it just keeps getting better and better as you go on.
I still haven't beaten it yet. I kinda took a break from it since I got Xbox Live for a few months..''"You put water into a cup..It becomes the cup."''
Ninja Gaiden 2, turn voices to Japanese for awesomeness during fights.
These forum features aren't good.

I knew I couldn't be the only one. I'm actually playing this game to take break from Xbox live haha. - Jan 9, 2013 1:36 am GMTYes, played the game last summer. Didn't got the negative as well.
In theory, it's FFX with different combat, characters and story. And the crystarium is a watered down version of the sphere grid.
FFX was linear as well and a fan favourite. So all the backlash on 13 being linear as well is kind of... redundant.
Yes, X's difference is, you can revisit almost every place, as 13 won'T let you backtrack to areas before chapter 11.
And I found this game very enjoyable, I even tried XIII-2, which I like as well. Found FF12 to be much worse (Gambits, Urgh!) and I'm curious about "Lightning Returns". - Jan 9, 2013 5:36 am GMTGlad you like it.
I had to restart twice cause the beginning was too boring for me and when I gritted my teeth and kept going, it was fun and then it got towards the end and I was back to rushing and finishing this game. So I rushed and finished the game and then realized that it is a fun game, and I have much more fun now playing the game and even trying to 100% it.
Uuuurgh CP points are insane towards the end.....

PS: Don't upgrade Weapons, upgrade Physical/Magical Resistance Accessories first. Also, don't sell any elemental ring, if you want the Treasure Hunter Achievement.

Thanks for the tip. On disc 2 haven't upgraded anything. - Jan 12, 2013 9:16 am GMTExternica posted...

XII is the only final fantasy I didn't play. X took me like 6 tries to finally get into it. But this does remind me a lot of X maybe it's the voice acting. Blizball was awesome though. And X-2 ugh. I felt too girly playing it. But felt I had to finish it. - Jan 17, 2013 8:50 pm GMTIt has map design similar to X, probably why ur reminded of it. Also just for the record, the game DOES start off boring, I still like it and everything, but I'm replaying it now, and the first 6 chapters really are a chore, and the first 2 are just not fun.
- Jan 26, 2013 3:25 pm GMTHonestly, the Killika Islands and first two chapters in FF 10 were boring as well. Random spawn frog enemy, run up beach, New random battle. It was as linear as it comes right down to forcing you up the hallway!
I just frankly don't see how anyone can not enjoy the first 2 chapters of FF 13 and then enjoy FF 10s. There is a huge disconnect there for me. Yes you could run a few feet to a chest in 10, but you could run a coul de sac in FF 13 to the same chests/New item. All in all the linearity isn't really that pronounced. Compared to FF 9 though its like dropping off a cliff, so I had to play 10 some before 13 again.
FF10 is just like a straight hallway compared to FF9. As is FF13 which is a big deal!
Very noticeable especially in the second half, where FF9 plays like a free roam dungeon crawler whereas FF10 doesn't allow you to ride a real airship at all and is like a one page book, as is FF13 standing on the bridge. I don't count the velo cycle ride since that's all FMV. - Jan 26, 2013 3:32 pm GMTfoo1239 posted...

In the first chapter I amuse myself by trying to dodge fights, and by optimizing my timing and placement of Blitz/Hand Grenade vs. Attack.
In the second chapter I do the same, except when controlling Vanille, where I amuse myself by reading something while Hope kills stuff as slowly as possible to maximize the number of Shroud drops I get.
In the third chapter, I get to add ATB refreshing and RAV vs. COM time to my optimizing.
In chapter 4, I get to practice being efficient with buffs and debuffs.
Chapter 5 is mostly about expert AoE tactics.
And in chapter 6 I get to control a SAB and take on some pretty challenging enemies.
Just my ways of making the early chapters more interesting and less of a chore.
