You could always avoid bad english voice acting by simply changing the language at the options menu, thus enjoying the game in pure ol' japanese
1 Like I am not a fan of games that are hard for no reason or that require luck to kill a boss or endless leveling.
But ff13-2 was a little too easy with no real challenge. My personal goal is not to get 5 stars it is to not see the Game Over screen.
I get the design, random mobs and bosses can be killed by just hitting X repeatedly but you will not get 5 stars maybe 1-3, if you work at it, level up, gear up, etc and use strategy you can get that 5 star. Dammit that is not what rpg gamers want- we want each fight whether it is simple mob or hidden boss mob to mean something more than just a grade.
I understand developers are constantly trying to bring in new rpg gamers so they need to keep it simple - trying to get that Wii crowd - short bus simple audience-
But hey they got a normal and easy mode - how much harder could it have been just to add a advance mode.
One of my favorites was FF12 - you had to be careful some of the mobs and bounties could easily stomp a person if you wandered into an area more advanced then your party. It may have taken hours to setup you team in 12 but it was worth it.
Anyway please square quit making short crappy stories with weak, remember-less bosses. Really folks can anyone really remember the bad guys from 8, 9, 10, 12, 13. Oh i know you all out there remember 5, 6,7 main protagonist or bad guy. In 12 what was the reason for the game anyways, why were the main characters fighting so hard?
Square - it is the story stupid.
You know 10-2 was better then this, at least the story and bosses were great. Please focus on the story, and bad guys - add some challenge to the combat. Do NOT just add more hps to the mobs/bosses but make the fights better.

1 Like Why are the reviews so negative? The game was amazing made me cry. I'm still not satisfied with the ending and still have so many questions, lightning's dlc kinda of helped. Can't wait till Lightning Returns. :D
4 Like I think this game is awesome, the story is very interesting, the music is beautiful if you liked final fantasy XIII you will like this one as well, all of the final fantasy games have been different, I will never understand the hate for this ones
1 Like story in this games so bad, i had to start skipping an hour into starting, and it comes off so pretentious its embarrassing to watch. i dont see how GS thinks this game's story was a highlight

@jeffbordonaro :D Nah, just anything that makes sense really. I've always loved final fantasy scripts but to me this one felt like the writer just looked up words that sounded cool in a dictionary of foreign words and thought it would be enough to create a good story. The gameplay was fun though.
FFVll, FFVlll, FFlX,FFX -are the best for me but i played all and this looks amazing too
1 Like Why so much hate for this game, I actually found XIII and XIII-2 brilliant, it's full of amazing storyline and so many hidden meanings that those VII fanboys will just never understand, also this game's storyline is sooo awesome, with so many endings and so many choices (storyline development). I just can't get u guys or this 7.5 rating....
Square Enix should focus on making Final Fantasy 15 instead of this. The next final fantasy probably won't be released before the next generation of consoles appear. Square Enix should be more productive and make more games in the main series. NES: FFI FFII and FFIII. SNES: FFIV FFV and FFVI. PS: FFVII FFVIII and FFIX. PS2: FFX FFXI and FFXII. PS3: FFXIII and FFXIV (kinda). Just two games for theese generation where one of them is still not released on console and is online and not very good.
This game was a huge disappointment for me. As a stand-alone RPG, it was alright. Above average even. But it definitely is not on par with its FF predecessors. Makes me sad. @ AzuricPaw, I have played and beaten (and when I beat something, I mean EVERYTHING) every FF from I to XIII-2, including spin-offs such as tactics/crystal chonicles. I had nothing but faith in the series. But with releases like this, I don't think I can waste anymore time/money.
Wow, Amazing how many butthurt fanboys there are complaining about the new and praising the old. Well all I can say is if you base everything you know off of a review, youve already lost. Not to mention the fact that the "Legendary" FF7 & 8 had plenty of flaws of their own, but they're put aside for God knows why! I really dont understand the hate!
I would vote this game 10... i like ff so much. i play for ff11-2 ff12 ff13 ff13-2..... I like it all... I think I was born to earth play ff.. :):)
Finished this game last month. Awesome and it all displayed in 1080p. FFXIII-2 was a huge improvement over FXIII.
@Slainta Thank you, In my opinion this game actually puts some hope back into Final Fantasy. Found it to be way too easy though. I still wish though that they would try to do the games more like the older ones, not focus so much and the graphics and actually make a big game with all kind of stuff to do, I mean this game does have stuff to do but the older ones had all kinds of superbosses, minigames, a lot of stuff. I found it to be a really good game all in all. If anything I am starting to lean towards other people saying they should either remake the older games, or at least try something like the older games instead of this Star Wars/Trek stuff. I prefer the. classical themed Final Fantasies more. That is just my opinion though.
1 Like It would be nice if people before thumbing down the game would actually play it... I finished it and it is actually worth at least a 9/10. The story really fits with the original and the gameplay is fun. Much faster than FFXIII. That's also why to finish the main story takes less. A must buy for any JRPG player.
I'm interested to see why Snow isn't with Serah on the journey. I mean he went to the ends of the earth to save her in the first one and then when he gets her he just lets her go off with some other dude to hop time. He must have a good reason to stay behind.
This game is extremely underrated based on the review scores. 13-2 is a great game, It makes absolutely no sense with him saying the story isn't as long as 13, when most people complained about the 20 hour tutorial FF13 had... sigh w/e lol.
Really? First X-2, now XIII-2? We want XII-2, IX-2 and so on. I hope "soft" kick "enix" ass.
why not just Re-Make FF7, when the ps3 made its first appearance with the FF7 prototype video
This review clearly is not that accurate.. Saying Noel and Serah are a blandy pleasent team.. and not alot of tension between them...anyhow 7,5 is a bit low.. It needs to get at least 8.5.. this is way better than Dragon Age 2 :P
i actually liked FF13 more, i couldn't finish this game. i got so bored, there was no challenge at all for me. im a big fan of the FF series i almost played every title, and i really tried to like this one but i just couldn't ;'( im glad i got this game for free kupo! ^^/
Final Fantasy needs to go in the The Elder Scrolls direction. an on open ended Final Fantasy world would be awesome.

@RealFabioSooner That's a very insightful and smart way to look at it, I know that I often don't take into account that gaming is an older form of media that what most perceive it and so also can't compare my own childhood experience of games to those of others. I suppose I just get so frustrated when people blindly refuse the new and try and defend the 'not-so-flawless' old games that seamlessly perfect in their memories.
