the game still looks quite linear to me.
i think what this game needs are dugeons and maps as complicated as Metroid Prime areas, those were really inmersive. Just magine playing a final fantasy in such a world.

xiis story was weak.you cant deny that.but you're right xii was very open and gave much more freedom.for me it just got bland and i lost interest halfway through.we all have our own preferences,i guess.you either love or hate xiii.

hope in the future final fantasy...the charater that we don't control in battle could summon their guardian as well

i don't get it. How come Square-Enix japan can't seem to make a good open, non-linear games and yet Square-Enix London can go and make the most open, non-linear game of all time. It just doesn't make sense to me

@Drunkenboxer07 yes it's just they're western one Mass Effect series, Dragon Age: Origins, Oblivion (It's got Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart what's not to like?), The Witcher Series (Although the first one's combat kind of irked me it still had great depth). But yeah Ps1 was definitely when RPG's were in their prime. My favorite for PS1 was legend of dragoon which gamespot gave a crappy review of.

@Dekanis X was only semi-linear until you got the airship. And I say semi-linear because even though it basically guided you in a single direction it was often full of hidden secrets and treasures to discover. Such as the hidden temple only accessible VIA chocobo that gets you the magus sisters. that and there were a buttload of interesting secret bosses and summons like there are in nearly every FF with the exception of XIII

@ishan9 You're joking right? sure FFXII's character (well, besides balthier) weren't as good but how was XIII better in any way? XII almost nailed the perfect mix between turn-based and action that square enix has been going for. Plus the amount of extra stuff to do and the vast open world was awesome. XIII's characters were even more unlikable than XII's sidequests were all simple kill missions with hardly any variety. The upgrade system was dismal compared to XII's as well. There were no explorable towns in XIII while XII actually had ones that you weren't even required to go to such as nalbina. there was no exploring Via airship either. saying XII wasn't as good as XIII is like saying X wasn't as good as X-2

Hmm gamers didn't like the last game very much so let's put in something they want to see over and over again, I KNOW WE'LL DO QUICKTIME EVENTS! It does look much more open though i'll give it that. But even that doesn't fix the fact that every single character from XIII with maybe the exception of Sazh was cliche and annoying. Also, if we can already see the monsters, what's the point of going into a battle screen, doesn't that just make it take longer? That's what I liked about XII. Sure it was a bit grindy but the way the battle system was designed made grinding a lot more tedious than it was in other games. Plus, unlike XIII, you could still control all the characters, there was still a major element of strategy, and the upgrade system was very free and open to how you could customize your characters, XIII had none of that and from the looks of it XIII-2 doesn't either.

I wished they'd take this awesome engine they've made and ya know....make a GOOD game. Just throwing it out there, probably a good idea but just a suggestion after all.

It took me 6 months to beat FF13 just because it was so bland and boring. I'll be honest and say that I liked the combat system, It was something new but I still liked FF10's better. The storyline is where this game sucked and everything was so repetitive. I also hated the leveling system. After seeing this demo it almost makes me want to say I have restored faith in Square and the ablitlity for them to give their fans what they want and deserve. Almost....
