AFROOOOOOOO !!!!!!!
Oh - I just wanted to update the worst FF ever - I didn't think they could top FFXIII, but FF XIV Online proved they had further levels to sink to than we could ever imagine... eck!
@AntiH3ro97 When I said "general consensus" I didn't mean "your opinion" - I was speaking of everything I have read and people's comments at over 50 different places (forums, articles, reviews, etc,). It also takes into account reading between the lines of hyped up reviews and the negative stuff people agree upon, but then say - "but I still liked the game". FFXIII is basically well known to be a linear, boring, tedious affair - with some of the most uninteresting characters ever in a FF game. SE needs to get that FF Tactics guy off of the team and bring back Hironobu Sakaguchi for Gods sake - if we're going to have to suffer through sucky story - at least let us have some imaginative characters to play with!
The first FF game I wont be buying. FF13 was terrible. Absolutely terrible.
ugh same main character HATED playing lightning hard to feel like badass
@magusat999 that was not the general "consensus" at all. I'd say it was more of a hit or miss, I myself loved FFXIII
Holy cow this is the da game bruv to play for new winter lol.
i hope they make a lot of improvements..with better side quests ..epic items ...secret areas , customizable characters and better espers ... i do hope they make the world like FF12... that game is one of my favorites in the FF franchise...
@blitz They'll set a date, then theyll push it back and back and back. We're not seeing this till q3 or q4 2012 btw. hope it's not like FFX-2....boo
I hope they come out with more info soon; and more-so I hope they FIXED the game, because the consensus was that FFXIII was the worst ever. I am a long time fan of the series, but this is the first one I purposely did not complete (I did the story but had no interest in the continuation "Mob Quests" - instead retrurning it for a refund. I have no interest in repeating the linear and broken experience of FFXII just because they made an X-2 (which brings to mind the last X-2, which was a game worse than the horrible FFX of which it was based). Make the whole world like the outworld, or whatever that animal planet was called, where we can explore at will - and MAYBE. But if they come with the same old formula I won't even bother to rent it, let alone buy it.
When's it gonna be released? I can't wait ^^
sweet, i cant wait, but i hope it wont be as linear
Transformers!!!Summons in Disguise
finally we get back to the fantasy of final fantasy!
I personally enjoyed XIII, I thought it was a pretty bold move on Square's part, and it was kinda refreshing to get away from the usual (but still fun) turn-based battles. But that's just me. Either way, I'm pretty excited for this (and Versus XIII and Type-0)
@ heroesfan261 Couldn't agree with you more.
@Heroesfan261 I did in fact mention in my previous post that I agree that there is a lack of town's and exploration but in terms of locations, the general structure is the same. I also agree with you that there certainly wasn't enough secrets, side areas and a lack of any kind of mini game that are usually plentiful in FF games. In terms of story, it flops a bit about 3/4 of the way but the character development (debatable for some characters), tension and initial distrust really added some dramatic flair to the story and makes the seem a bit more believable as they have there own initial goals and issues, unlike the whole instant 'band of brothers' feeling you get in other FF's. The story has some absolutely cheesy moments as well but isn't any FF game just the same again? The upgrade system worked pretty well, that was one of the game's little 'secrets' in term's of finding out to make upgrades as efficient as possible, finding the best loot to make these upgrades with and so on, plus it was an adaptation of upgrade system in FFVIII that worked well and wasn't slated that much. People just need to stop getting picky and get rid of this 'back in my day' complex. I've played and completed most of the series and whilst I love them all, the all have there faults, faults which seem to be forgotten and overlooked when FFXIII is being talked about.
@SinStarship Yet ten actually had a lot of freedom of where you could choose to go anyways. For instance, you could go through the entire game without even knowing about all of the secret Aeons and there were tons of secret weapons and boss fights. 13 had none of that and at least in every other FF game we got the ability to travel around the entire world at whim. In XIII it's a couple of open plains and the only things you can do there are kill stuff and do repetitive missions. If the story doesn't allow for towns, you change it for an RPG. The story sucked anyways. Plus the upgrade system was stupid.
Can't wait to have repetetive side-missions, zero exploration, poorly designed boss battles, and useless summons again.
I love haircuts in this game
sweet. can't wait to, again, defeat each enemy by hitting them 50 times. oh wait, i didn't actually like that. Any chance for a FFVI-2?
I wonder is every one will be back from XIII
Those that complain about FFXIII being linear have only to look back at all the other Final Fantasy's and realise that they are also filled with corridors (except FFXII large environments) The map icon in FFX only makes you realise it further as it outlines these corridors. I agree that there is a lack of towns and areas open to being revisit and a quick access world map. The story correlates to this however. You might find yourself being forced down corridors but this is the game grasping the urgency and lack of time the characters have. There are no town environments because everyone despises and fears l'Cie so running around those like an ordinary citizen makes no sense. I might sound like I'm bashing the old games, I'm not I absolutely love them. I just really can't find a justification for the severe hate this game receives ALL the time.
@kablay "They REALLY need to go back to turn-based battling because this stupid dumb-people battling is horrible. If you're complaining about you having to THINK in battle and it being too SLOW, then WHY ARE YOU PLAYING AN RPG?" How can you really even say this? The battle system in FFXIII is as good as another others in the series. Yes, it's starts out slow and easy for a while but that's only to ease the player into a vastly different system. At later battles and boss fights (including the 'marks' missions given by the l'Cie crystals) you have to think on the fly and react very quickly or it's game over before you know it, so it is certainly not "stupid dumb-people battling". This game doesn't give you forever in you're own turn to think about your next set of actions like those Final Fantasy's that don't have an ATB system. Also I'm pretty sure everyone has whipped through a battle mashing one command from their characters in any Final Fantasy. Square Enix wants to experiment with the formula and see what it can do, so let them. It's just like any artist and they're artwork or musician and the music they produce, things eventually adapted and people have to realise this.
please lose the bad euro-tecno music square
damn godit, Iwant this on pc! (>_

They just HAD to make the guy look like he doesn't know what his gender is... *facepalm* If the two of them are only going to end up sucking faces and falling in love, Square Enix might as well ditch this and go on Hiatus to find themselves.
SWEET
@RyuuMasato I found a link earlier today that compared a still frame of the guy in this video to one of Cid Raines and they were identical. So either its him or they just did a cookie cutter of his character and gave him a different identity.
this is like Final Fantasy X-2 but different story
who's the purple dude with the big ass sword?
AAAAAAA!!!!! This looks great!! :)
I have FFXII and it is great!!! This Final Fantasy looks 100% better so... I'm sure I'm getting this one. I love Final Fantasy games because they tell a great story. :D

This one better actually be good. I really hope it's completely different than XIII like X-2 was to X because XIII bored me to death. There wasn't any point to anything except for continuing the story, which wasn't amazing. The characters were not appealing, either, which was helped the story tank. It did not suck me in at all, whereas X sucked me in completely. They REALLY need to go back to turn-based battling because this stupid dumb-people battling is horrible. If you're complaining about you having to THINK in battle and it being too SLOW, then WHY ARE YOU PLAYING AN RPG?
While I will always maintain that FF lost a good portion of the strategic element it once had in fighting when it did away with the classic turn based system (where you chose & executed every action by every character), I don't believe I've ever truly been disappointed with one of their games (wasn't a huge fan of X-2 but it was still decent). I can't wait to see where this new story takes us ^^
So looking forward to more info on this game:D
why are there so many haters on this game? People were complaining when the game was too open, and now they made it a bit linear up to chapter 11 and people freak out. IT WAS AN EXCELLENT GAME. The story was good, characters were great, and an amazing battle system. Quite whining and go replay your old ff and leave this to the real fans of the series
I could care less how linear it was, I loved everything about FFXIII and can't wait for this one
...great... another long, boring, arduous and uninteresting grind through a narrow corridor for 50 hours. Seriously, SquareEnix? FFXIII was just boring and un-fun to play. Some people like it and kudos to them. I finally buckled down and finished the game only last week and today, I can remember the names of NONE of the main characters except for Lightning! Let's be honest, the original Megaman was less linear than FFXIII. So NO Squeenix, we don't want more of the same crap in a FF game. Go back to the formula that made FFVII the greatest RPG of all time. Your fans are rooting for you....
Like the new armor. I can't really tell what's it is actullay about yet though...
I look for this to be quiet similar to FFX-2. Same game with new twists and weapons. It is coca cola's coca-cola zero. Same great taste but less noobish.
all i know is Square has gone DOWN and ever sens it became SquareEnix.. it was much better.. way better storys and all of that when it was still SquareSoft!
I think ffxiii wasn't THAT bad. yes, linearity sucked, but mayb they'll listen to the cries of ff fans and give us an overworld. i disagree with complaints of the battle system. my complaints r sorta the opposite, cause i don't like menu combat in a real-time situation. i want quick time button commands for spells and attacks. also being able to switch between party members during a battle would be a help and get rid of that somewat annoying paradigm. real time is a lot better than turn based in my opinion. btw, ffxiii story wasn't bad at all, it was interesting and dramatic. P.S. to the one who said lightning was a cloud wannabe, u got it backwards. CLOUD IS A LIGHTNING WANNABE. I've played ff1-7 so i can say this with reassurance. Cloud's got his problems...
Seems as cool as the XIII....I will keep a close eye :)
Sweet loved the first game know im going to love the sequel
I liked final fantasy 13 all games dont have to be same people always say its too linear who cares Its fun and it wasn't that hard and thats my definition of a great game. They probably used the same mechanics to make this game that must be why they announced it. And versus must be a crazy game if its taking them this long to make it I hope they release that sucker soon too.
Forget square enix, go bioware! i have lost hope in square enix to make good rpg games, or basically the ps3 rpg games, even the psp has better rpg games, but overall ff13 bad, i don't care if the graphics were fantastic, the game play sucked, and whats with all these linear games now days? i feel like we have a bunch of lazy game developers looking for quick money, for example the new ff online game, another failed game by square enix, i hope they listen to all the critics of how bad 13 was so they will revamp 13-2
I've played every FF game that has existed, beat most to all of them aswell. Started from FF1 and progressed up. I agree yes, they should go back to the old forumla's but the fighting was fun in the FFXIII. I however did like it, I enjoyed the game, no it wasnt full of worlds, dungeons, dungeons with levels harder than the final boss (Like FFX-2), FF7 style, Even FF1 style lol i know. But Even though it was linear and you were forced on the path, i found it fun with the graphic boost, it was more of a side game to me rather than a full Final Fantasy style. Almost like a "Mystic Quest", where it's not really a final fantasy, ur on one path. I Agree that FF1-IX were great, Although I didnt so much enjoy 8 and welcomed 9 when it came out back to the way it should be. All in all I cant wait for this game, I find it hard to get into them now without some depth. They need to make a more MMO style with a huge world, perils everywhere, and mobs roaming around ready to fight and you get ganked etc. I know those are usually only Online, but would be fun to have a offline version :) With hard dungeons, big boss's, big AOE effects so you can solo some of the harder area's etc. Would be fun :) I guess i'm just one of those "Grinders", I love story but love the long grinds too :) Lastly another reason I really like FF13 is because I like the design of the surroundings, the FMV's, and the art within the game.
