With FF usually being turn based I expected all hell to break loose on this board when it was announced LR is an ARPG. But most, if not all, posts I've seen about the change are positive ones. So is this the direction you guys want FF to go from now on?

Or would you rather they stick to Turn-based/Hybrids? Vote.

I'd rather game franchises stick to their roots, otherwise the FF title should just be dropped and each game acts as its own IP. But guess I'll be called an old fogey and blinded by nostalgia.

Final Fantasy has not been turn-based since the NES games.

Type-0 is more actiony and Versus reputedly has similar system so it's not like this is a surprise for FNC/XIII related stuff.

If FF XII is considered Action RPG, then yes, all FF should be like FF XII

FF never sticked to their roots anyway. ATB alone is proof of that, instead of real turn based.

Nope it isn't. Too much of ability lag, slow command input due charges and actions are queued to be considered an Action RPG.

I voted only spin-offs because even if I'd like all FFs to be real RPGs I don't want FFXIII's hybrid combat system, and I had no other choice as a vote.
I could go for an ATB tho'

Then I guess Semi Action RPG, I Think best gameplay is FF XII, I admit not the best in story telling and to fast in main story, just gameplay wise.

I don't think it is still an ATB game, same reason why Chrono Trigger is still an ATB game despite blending the battle scenes with exploration maps.

I wouldn't mind the occasional ARPG, but X and XIII is why I fell in love with the series.

#2 and #4 seem to be basically the same thing, unless #4 is just leaving open the option that one wants FFs to turn into platformers or something.

turn-base battle system is outdated and destined to die soon.

it doesn't look good when your full 3D realistic models stand there and doing nothing until their turns.

It can be done and look good

Make it look alive (FF8 characters have extra animation for action).
Did FF (Or JRPG) players forget great camera work in many turn-based titles?
(Limit Breaks, Special Attacks, Criticals) I dont think so.
So if they just make characters look in "motion".

    I say: Music! Camera! Action!

And I would like to see weather in battle with effect on models and system.

Pls dont kill turn-based.... i mean good turn-based (like SMT:Nocturne)

I prefer the FFXI/XII system that does away with random battles but keeps an timer based system for combat. One thing I would love to see is XIIs system redone with extra controllers supported for multiplayer control of the full party.

I can see XIIIs gameplay working pretty well as well but it had 2 problems IMO, the restrictive rather than open environment and a lack of skill and abilitiez compared to past entries. XIIs combat in a open zone based world like XI and XII sounds like it would be pretty fun.

just make it in both system, like Dissidia.

Action mode for people who like it.

and RPG mode for those nostalgia whiners.

FF1, FF2, FF3, Mystic Quest and FFX isn't exactly usually being turn based is it?

Aslong as they do a good job at it, I'm fine with alternating styles.
If possible, I think it would be amazing to include both combat systems and allow the user to choose between them! :3

It would be like two games in one!

Eh turn based might not be destined to die, but it's kind of a waste to make a good graphic game turn based. For turned based rpgs all that really matters to most people is story and music rather than graphics.

Case in point, probably the most popular turned based rpgs outside of FFX of last gen were persona 3 and 4 and I swear just about every rpg on that system had better graphics then those two games.

Anyways I feel like if they are gonna make a turn-based game, they might as well make it on a portable system or as a cheap psn or xbox live download. It's not like graphics effect anything about the combat. Plus we've made a million turn based rpgs by this point and they are all kind of running together, usually only seperated by their individual gimmicks.

I think they should focus on action rpgs because they are a bit more distinct from one another, make good use of graphics and I don't believe we've made ourselves even close to the perfect action rpg (always a problem in terms of controls, camera, balance issue or what not). So yeah I think they are kind of the way of the future for rpgs these days (back in the day they were quite limited).

Encounters/AI/Movesets of a turn based aren't like action based games. Turn based that people like/ praise are simply puzzle game.
