I spent alot of time on this game, so there are many things to talk about. Is FFXII worth playing through if you haven't done so? Yes. Are you missing out on something spectacular if you don't? Hmm...maybe. The biggest change from the previous entries in the series is the gambit system, also this game plays more like an MMORPG, so much of the combat is left to the AI via the gambit system. My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen more variables, maybe 3 instead of 2, but overall the system worked well. You start the game having to handle most of your basic actions yourself, and the game does a good job of easing you into using more and more gambits, which can be collected or bought. By the final battles I was letting my gambits do all the work and simply tweaking things when I needed to.
Graphics were great, especially for the PS2, I could see where more details could easily have been added on a higher powered system. Storyline was interesting. As always, FF is a bit quirky, and Ivalice isn't my favorite FF world, but they did the thing with style. I never did get a 1/4 of the weapons in the game, and didn't have at least 10 of the spells when I beat it fairly easily. The biggest disappointment were the Espers, which were basically useless because of the need to use your magic power supply to fuel them. Also, they just weren't all that powerful. Great game, and I think I liked Vaan a little better then Tidus, not quite as gay a costume. :)
