Probably the best expansion for FFXI, this game really delivers. (Actual Rating: 8.25)

This review is going to be fairly brief, because I don't like to spoil things in a game for the player, so I will be vague, and if you want to know my opinion on FFXI, then you can read my FFXI:Vana'diel Collection. I will merely say a short bit about ToAU here.

There isn't much to say about the graphics, it is the same old games, though admittedly the new areas have a new theme and therefore do feel somewhat fresh. They still look as good as ever, but the game's age begins to show a little at this point. As for the sound, it is plagued with the same problems as the past installments, but it also has the same high quality that you have come to expect, when the music is actually there. Sound effects didn't seem much different to me.

The content itself is wonderful though. The two new jobs are very interesting and an absolute fun to play with (my favorite being the Blue Mage, though I have had many good experiences as a Corsair as well). They are both easily accessible to level 20's and they are both easily managed by 20's as well. The new areas are also spread out amongst the levels, and there is a lot more to explore in this expansion than there was in either of the other two. Another great thing about this expansion is the new addition to the story, which felt kind of like a side-story, but was a bit more interesting than the series generally offers.

Overall, this is an expansion that is a must-have for FFXI players, because it, honestly, offers the most bang for your buck in comparison to the last expansions. For those of you who have not played FFXI yet, I'd suggest reading my review on the Vana'diel Collection, and then depending on your interest, go out and try Vana'diel Collection 2007, which included all of FFXI minus Wings of the Goddess for somewhere around 30 dollars I believe. That is a great value. As I mention in my other review though, this game is not for everybody.

FFXI players, THIS is what we've been waiting for, so if you haven't upgraded with this expansion yet, and you plan on playing for a bit more, it would be a good idea to get this. Enjoy.
