This installment of the FF series gives FFVII a run for it's money. And I'll tell you why...

User Rating: 9 | Final Fantasy VIII (Platinum) PS
Final Fantasy VIII was possibly the best game to carry the Final Fantasy name. It rivals the smooth storyline of Final Fantasy VII, and makes most Playstation games envious of it's graphics. The storyline is immersive, and highly addicting, as you soon find yourself attracted to Squall's realistic and often pessimistic attitude. The game plays out several emotions, and details all sorts of unusual secrets and plot twists. Like most Final Fantasy games, the beginning is a little slow. But it soon picks up, and you find yourself driving towards the next GF, the summons in this title, and keeps you wanting more of the storyline. Suspense builds up, and pieces of the puzzle fall into place, and much like Final Fantasy VII, you want more.

Gameplay: The gameplay for FFVIII is truly exciting in every aspect. The battle system is easy to follow, and often enticing. The storyline gets really in-depth, and it's like Pringles, once you pop, you can't stop :P.

Graphics: The graphics were a vast improvement from the clearly artificial graphics of the previous installment, where each character, important or otherwise, was more detailed and realistic, and for the Playstation, it was at the top of it's class. Backgrounds were beautifully detailed, almost looking real.

Sound: The music seemed to fit quite well with each scenario. In somewhat chaotic moments, the tempo was faster, more of an action sound to it. When it was peaceful, the music was more laid back, and perfect for the mood, I guess one could say.

Value: I had purchased this game for $20, as a Greatest Hits title. Well, I am a firm believer that it was worth more than that, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Worth every penny.

Tilt: I say that because I find it to be shoulder to shoulder with Final Fantasy VII, it deserves a 10/10. Thank you Squaresoft, for this brilliant follow-up to VII.
