Awesome movie for an awesome game.

Final Fantasy VII is my favorite RPG, and to have a movie that follows the game so well is such a great thing. The movie takes place two years after Final Fantasy VII, and it captures the environment and the scenery of the world very well.

Graphics: For a CGI movie, you can barely tell it’s in CGI, the graphics are borderline photo-realistic. The graphical feel of the movie is amazing, you can see stuff like the reflection of Cloud in the water, a shadow of a person in his eyes. The detail on the eyes are amazing too, full of emotion. The characters were re-designed for the movie, and the new design is very nicely done, they feel realistic and life-like.

Presentation: Seeing how you cannot ‘play’ a movie, I put this in presentation instead of game play. The movie has excellent pacing, it’s very action-packed with many fight and chase scenes, and they are very nicely done. The final fight scene has to be one of the best I’ve seen ever. The sword fights are very enjoyable and the movie moves at an excellent pace.

Sound: The voice acting is borderline perfect, and the soundtrack is very good. The soundtrack even topples FFVII’s soundtrack! It has both a mellow and a rockfish feel, from remixes of old songs to new songs that really catch the feel. The sound is perfect.

Story: The story takes a backseat to the action in the movie, but it’s still very nicely done. The story is interesting, while it doesn’t answer questions from the game, it gives it a solid continuation. A solid continuation that was very much needed since FFVII ended with a cliff hanger.

Bottom line: Awesome movie. It really captures the mood for FFVII and gives fans the hope that if a remake was ever going to happen, it’d probably look something like this. Defiantly a must own for fans of Final Fantasy VII.
