Are abilities without a "!" passive abilities?

I understand that abilities with an "!" go into the command window during battle, like !Black, !White, !Summ, etc. But what I would like to know, is if abilities WITHOUT an "!" are passive abilities that pertain to that class only?

Like If I were to equip Dash on my Faris Knight, she has an empty 3rd slot in battle, but can run extremly fast in the field. But If I make her a thief, and NOT equip dash, she can run fast anyway because its a thiefs ability by default.

Do I have this correct?

That's right.

Just a note though, not all of the passive abilities that a Job learns are always in effect for that Job. That is to say, you learn 2-hand with the Knight class, but the Knight doesn't have that by default, and still has to equip the 2-hand skill.

The Thief's Dash, Ninja's First Attack, and Samurai's Sword Grab are always in effect for their respective Jobs, and don't need to be equipped. I believe the instruction booklet lists these as characteristics in the Job section.

Further, the Bare Job takes all the natural passives of any Jobs mastered, meaning a Bare with Thief mastered would always have Dash.

EDIT: Hm. I'm late. You've probably figured this all out by now.
