Is this game supposed to be backwards compatible on the 320 GB PS3? I keep trying to play the first one but it never loads

Both FF1 and 2 on Origins have troubles on the PS3. I was never able to get it to work, I had to use my old PS2. Other people have reported the same issues.

I used my chunky PS2 to play this since I bought the PS3 after they discontinued the backwards compat.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I heard from another user that Final Fantasy Origins will be up on the PSN this week. (No links or other info, so again take it with a grain of salt.)

Either way, whether it comes this week or not, it's still scheduled to come out eventually on the PSN, which means you'll eventually be able to play it on your PS3 (and PSP).

Does anyone know if there was an update so those with the actual disc can play? Cause I'm not paying 9.99 for a game I own already anytime soon.

You should have been able to play the PS1 disc from day one of the PS3 release - Nov 17th 2006. if the disc is scratched than it probably won't play and you'd have to replace it.

If you do google searches you will see this is NOT true for FF Origins. It's listed many places as not being 100% compatible. There is a critical bug in both FF1 and FF2 that don't allow you to finish the game. It's even mentioned right on this board in multple topics over the years. This issue was never fixed.

I'd like to note that I got through FF1 just fine so unless its class related, I don't think there's any glitches for that portion of FF Origins. It's FF2 with the church resurrections (and I believe the airship fortress) that has the problems where it just glitches out and doesn't work at all.

I wish I knew about this before I even bothered to use my ps3 to play this -_- I am stuck at kas'ion castle. After getting the torch lit I try to leave and head for the dreadnought, but after taking just one step outside on the world map. The screen glitches on me and the game just freezes. I got about 10 hours into this game and I seriously don't want to have to start allll freaking over >_<

Does anyone know any secret to getting through this? Or am I just screwed?

And to add insult to injury, I believe someone managed to get past that spot doing something funny with the save file, but then got stuck again not too much later with the same problem. There's pretty much no hope to play FFO:FF2 on PS3.

I'm playing through Final Fantasy 1 again using a save file from back in the day when it was released in disc form (copied from my original PSone Memory Card to the PS3), and I've started over and have had no issues so far. I'm playing the downloaded version from the PSN, and I'm about to slaughter Lich with some Fire 3. I'll keep everyone updated if I encounter any issues.

I want to buy this so badly (despite having the disk still). But not enough to waste the money on it if the game is going to glitch out on me.

I'm 99% certain that the new PSN downloadable version does not glitch out. It's just the disc-based version that isn't fully backwards compatible.
