One of the best Final Fantasy's, if not the best.

Final Fantasy IX is an amazing game, I have played it dozens of times and each time is more fun than the last. Eveything about this game is great and this adventure has it all, a great plot and plenty of sidequests spread out thoughout the game so you don't spend too long away from the plot. The great thing about this game is the characters and how everyone of them is useful. The reason for this is because IX's characters each have their own speciality, unlike VII or VIII in which characters can be customized. Each characters has their own goals, questions they ask themselves that drive them towards these goals. Be it Vivi, scared that he may be a monster but has the need to find out what he is, or Amarant, trying to figure out how Zidane can beat him despite his lack of discipline.

The plot however does have certain points where it just sucks awayall the greatness, all i can say is if you've played the game you know what I mean, but fortunately these point a few in numbers. I put the reason for these 'numb' points in the plot to Kuja, the antagonist, lacking the same grandeur of previous villians such as Sephiroth or Kefka. Towards the end of the game Kuja becomes insane, I thought to myself "Finally", but alas he still wasn't evil enough for square to make him the final boss. Enter Necron, a random entity who looked down upon the world of Gaia, and seeing Kuja's sudden hatred of all living things and decided "I'm going to destroy this world". So your final boss actually has nothing to do with anything in the game at all, the game doesn't even explain what he truly is.

That being said, the world of Final Fantasy IX is brilliant. With even more wonderful tunes from Nobuo Uematsu (check out 'You're No Alone") Final Fantasy IX has 30-40 hours of great old-school RPG fun. Heck even spending all that time playing you still won't have done everything because Square gives you a challenge to get The Ultimate weapon, and no it isn't the Ultima Weapon for Zidane. Get the a certain point in the FINAL dungeon Memoria within a mere 12 hours and you will get Excaliber II, the strongest weapon in the game for your knight Steiner. To get this weapon though you will need to speed through EVERYTHING, and your characters will be under-levelled for the entire game. Never before nor after have I been given a more difficult task.

So to sum up, this game is fun for everyone, be it looking for a fun time, immersing yourself into an amazing plot or looking for a challenge, then I insist you give this game a try, you won't be disappointed.
