Older games are prone to having no means of saving before the final boss. Off the top of my head, FF1, 4, maybe 5, and maybe 6 didn't have save points right before the boss. I don't know about 2 or 3, haven't played them. The newer final fantasy games tended towards giving you a way of saving. Can't remember FF7, been too long since I played it but for sure 8 and up gave you a save point a screen or two away from the final boss.

FF5 had a save point that you could unlock by defeating Necrophobe, I think that FF6 has one just before Kefka, and FF7 gave you an item to create your own save point anywhere in the Northern Crater

Haha, in FFIII you had to go through two dungeons without saving to beat that game. And 5 bosses before the final boss.

It's rare and unexpected, but strangely beautiful, like a unicorn using his horn to gore a priest.

You'd think after about 21 years and several remakes they would put in a friggin save point there. If they put in extra dungeons, and like ten extra bosses in the GBA version, they really don't have an excuse to not put in one more ****ing save point before the last boss.

Well, in this version you also have more ways to regen MP, higher HP/MP values (for every character but Cid and Yang, but you should never get past 30 with either), tons of enemy exploits, augments that stack, a change to make the Cursed Ring one of the most useful accessories in game, etc..
Not to mention it's highly unlikely you've even touched your Ether stock, maybe not even your X-Potions, and you should have almost all your elixirs left over. The last dungeon was designed to be challenging. I prefer it that way. A single save point just past the halfway point is fair. Not to mention the number of exploits to rip apart every enemy (save Armoured Fiends).

What change is this? The Cursed Ring works exactly as I remember it from earlier versions of FFIV.

Not to mention, in some battles, it's easy to just have Rosa use Pray to replenish MP before the final boss.

But that's not even necessary. You get fully healed for the Final Battle, there's just no save point after B7 so you have to trek through all four of those Crystal floors every time you fail.
