Was there a time limit for this game? I vagely remember the instruction manual mentioning some kind of time limit, and it would be game over if the game wasnt beaten at a certain time? Can anybody confirm or deny this? Was always curious about it...

Not at all. Not even a time limit sequence as there is in later FF games.

I don't even think it's possible to drag the game out to 99 hours even if you do the careful level-ups all the way to 99 and get all of the items...well, everything except Pink. I played long before I knew of Gamefaqs so never managed to get that. But getting everything else + monitored level-ups < 99 hours...

Well there is that part with the Evil Wall(i think that's it's name)that is a timed event/battle. Even if there isnt a counter on the screen it's still technically a timed part.

I've maxed the counter in a few different playthoughs. That included getting multiple numbers of all items including pink tails though. The Lilith Rods were in all honesty harder to win than the tails.

I was quite meticulous with level ups, going for ideal HP and MP each time as well as the right stat gains but it didn't add a whole ton to the play time since you simply reset if you don't get what you want.

Well, there's a time delay before the boss starts attacking. It's easier if you launch an all-out attack before it starts, but it should be more than possible to do nothing until it first attacks you & still win.

Zeromus will also do this. Before using the crystal on him, every few rounds of battle he will inch forward. When gets all the way to the end (forget how far), he casts Meteo. IIRC, it's a stupidly weak Meteo, doing like 900 instead of 9999.

Yea I guess it's feasible that you could still kill it after it starts attacking. Correct me if I'm wrong though. Arent it's attacks insta death attacks EVERY TURN? You would get wiped pretty fast unles you were godly levels. Id still consider it a timed event.

Yeah, he does start spamming insta-death attacks after he reaches the end. I haven't fought him in a long time, but I recall having to survive his insta-death attacks for some time before winning. As I said, it is distinctly easier to attack him immediately, but still winnable if you don't.

If you pick up a rare Ribbon drop from the ToadLady monster, the character equipping it will be able to survive the EvilWall's Crush attack (Death status).

The more threatening of timers are from Bahamut and particularly the Plague (for the White Spear treasure).

Or against Odin, even though there is no number appearing onscreen.

None of this should really be a problem though as long as you remember to slow the Wall and haste your characters asap.

Slow is epic and arguably overpowered (use twice to make things nice). Haste/Fast is overrated if not kinda useless/impractical.

I had forgotten about Odin, but he does give you an indication that he would kick your ass pretty quickly.

Bahamut in FF2 is so much tamer than the one in FF4...
