A game that any RPG lover, or any gamer for that matter, should try.

I bought this used at a Gamestop a few months back, and my, is this one addicting game! Anyway, on with the review.

STORY: The story is very cliche. Its a remake of an old, classic game. What do you expect? So this kingdom's princess is kidnapped, and you have to go save her. With a party of four of your choosing. Along the way, you'll encounter several memorable characters, such as Garland, or non-important ones like the people cursed by the Phantom Train. Anyway, although its pretty much cliche, the story still works surprisingly well. 8/10

FF2's storyline is not as cliche, as its about 4 surviving kids who become part of a resistance group to defeat the evil Empire. You will witness several memorable story parts such as deaths and other things. 8/10

GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is the game's heart, right? Well, luckily, the gameplay works great. You'll start off by choosing a group of 4 characters, each of a certain class. This the only Final Fantasy game that I know of that allows you to do this, and I think its great. Of course, you get to name them as well. I chose a warrior, red mage, white mage, and a thief, which works really well if you're a beginner. You'll travel across the land by foot and by ship, visiting cities and exploring dungeons. Battles are fought by random encounters, and although they can be annoying at times, They don't happen at a frustrating pace. Certain battles involve a dose or two of strategy, especially boss fights, but most of the battles you can get by by just attacking and occasionally healing. The boss battles are pretty cool, and the final boss is spectacular. Another great thing is that you can save ANYWHERE. Whether it be in a dungeon or in a town, you can save. Although this means you can screw yourself over at times, its really nice to be able to save anywhere you go. 10/10

FF2's gameplay is the same, only that you can't really choose your party's classes, and you don't level up. Instead, your stats improve depending on how you use a character in battle. 7/10

GRAPHICS: This is the GBA we're talking about, so don't expect to be amazed by much. Certain towns do look great, though, and the use of Mode-7 stuff is pretty cool. Its pretty much the usual 16-bit RPG visuals. 8/10

MUSIC: While some tracks do get old, a lot of them are really nice and go with the mood of the area. You'll probably find yourself humming several of them to yourself even after the GBA is shut down. 9/10

Overall, this is an excellent RPG that started the whole Final Fantasy craze... well, a remake of it. And its a remake that every RPG gamer should try out.
