Classic Final Fantasy with updated graphics

User Rating: 7.5 | Final Fantasy PSP
The original Final Fantasy, I remember hearing about this game when I was a kid in the 80's (yeah, I'm old) but never played it for some reason. Then about 25 years later, I decided to see where Final Fantasy started. Now just so you know, the only other Final Fantasy I have ever played was Final Fantasy X, so I in no way have a lot of comparisons to other Final Fantasy games.
To start, the story is very shallow, but it was what I expected from a game made on the original NES. Basically 4 crystal holders, are set to save the world. That's it, that's basically the whole story. There aren't really any side quests or anything like that, but again, that is what I expected.
The layout of the game works, but the game never really tells you where to go after a few missions, so you literally have to do some guess work, but that is part of the fun of the game, roaming around talking to people until you get the one clue that kinda leads you in the right direction.
The battle system is very simplistic and very easy to win battles, but it kept me engaged enough to complete the game.
Music is a classic score that just works for the game.
Graphically, the game has a classic look, but it is really clean.
Overall, I think everyone should see where the series started and to see how much it has grown over the years. This PSP remake is the perfect place to do it. Stay tuned for my Final Fantasy II Anniversary review as I play through the series.
