2013 Review
Firstly the characters, wow the characters, Players have such a wide choice of characters available from classic virtua fighter characters to fighting vipers series characters and classic gaming characters from various other saturn titles available as unlockables throughout the game.
Each character has a set of very unique moves which work amazingly well, This is not a game which players can instantly relate to the controls, Players must take some time to learn each characters moves before jumping into battle and the more time practicing the better and easier the experience. This in my opinion is what makes fighters megamix the best fighter on the system, Each fighter has a set of moves, counters, Strengths, Weakenesses which need to be mastered and i find the amount of character focused content to be truly amazing and a huge innovation for the time, Infact most of the gameplay aspects are still found today in the best modern fighting games.
The graphics although not exceptional are very good, Some characters are blocky but most are very well animated and detailed. The game runs flawlessly without any slow down or slow reactions. Each character has their own theme stage , Most are interesting but there are a few bland looking stages, Fortunately there are plenty to keep the player interested.
The difficulty of the game can be adjusted however from default their is a good challenge to be had for the average player, The characters which are classed as "bosses" are very difficult to overcome but provide some tense and rewarding encounters.
Their is also quite a few game modes available from the start, Team battle mode, Survival, Practice and of course VS mode are instantly available. Team battle is good fun 2 player and allows you to play with a variety of players. The great thing is their is amazing replay value with this game with a wealth of characters to master, Something of a rare thing for saturn games including the fighters.
There is not much else really to say, This is a definite must buy game for Saturn owners and fans of the fighters genre, I will go as far as saying possibly the best fighter on the Sega Saturn. The game can still be found for quite cheap which is surprising however is now becoming a rarity as i can imagine most gamers are holding onto this classic game so pick it up now whilst you can.
