The best footy game of the time, but it lacked depth. But you knew FIFA International Soccer was going places.

The first thing I noticed was not by eye but by ear. I rather like the music in this game, its funky with a beat and just a bit of base for a cool track. The sound effects where also pretty good, the cheer from the crowd, when your shot is saved or goes in. Even the bong of the ball sounds fairly good. But the best thing about the in game sound is when the crowd start to chant. Now that sounds like a real recording…

The gameplay is not the best by today’s standards but back then this type of gameplay was the best. You could dribble if you found space, that’s a big if know! The passing its self is easy to do but to string a good few passes together can be hard in its own right. You also had lob and strike, striking the ball from distance or from close range didn’t always seem to beat the A.I but you can shoot a hell of a lot in this game. The tackling is way harsh, you can easily destroy your opponents with horrible tackles. Better to turn the fouls on I say! While saying that turn the offside rule on too… O yes, the offside rule, this one is a bit broken in the game but it kind of works!

The graphics and menu system in the game where of top quality for the time and FIFA’s footy rival Super Kick-off was out done on the graphics front. Sadly this FIFA version didn’t have the same depth as SKO but it did make up for it with superior gameplay. The after show of a goal was a golden, which went to show that FIFA International Soccer was going places.
