The official X-COM field manual is a bit thin when it comes to field tactics. Until you're experienced enough to jot down your own notes in the margins, supplement your manual with this.
Stunning aliens - Micronoids are completely immune to stun gas. They can only be captured with stun grapples.
- Poppers are notoriously difficult to capture. However, they tend to freeze in place when confronted by a flying agent. Stun the popper from above with a stun grapple.
- Megaspawn are just plain difficult to stun. Soften them up with bullets before trying to stun them.
- Stunned or not, a wounded alien will still bleed to death and die. You can reduce the chances of an alien dying by not shooting at or stunning it until the last rounds of combat.
Medi-kits
Medi-kits can only heal the people who carry them. They can't be used to heal other agents or aliens.
Flying
You don't need the whole Marsec armor suit to fly, just the chest piece. Though lighter, the other Marsec pieces offer less protection. If you want increased mobility, invent the X-COM armor.
Personal Shields
Shields can survive damage that your agents can't. Stick a couple of shields into your backpack whenever you go into combat. Shields are destroyed when they are breached, so if you are to seize any, you need to take out shield-carrying aliens with toxin-based weapons that leave the shields intact.
