Witchfinder's
Quake for the Peopleby Tim Soete

Welcome to Witchfinder's lair, a place where nightmares become dreams - and vice versa. I've called you together today, brave soldiers, to guide you through an armory of independently forged software add-ons for the unholiest of 3-D games, Quake. And many such add-ons exist...

Quake is an ancient tome, but its scribes have left many blank pages upon which we can ink our own custom designs. Using Worldcraft, I was able to create a GameSpot anniversary Quake level in a matter of hours. But putting the game tools into the gamer's hands has its drawbacks.

There are so many Quake hackers out there that the uninitiated must wade through a confusing labyrinth of AI player programs, level editors, conversions, and other creations that outnumber even the spawn of Shub-Niggurath herself. How long does one have to search for a quality, user friendly Quake add-on before one's modem perishes in the fiery depths? Not long at all, friends. What follows is a collection of Quake software that puts the power into your hands faster than you can say "Rocket launcher with quad damage, please."

Quake Bots: Automated Opponents

Level Editors: So, You Wanna Be an Architect?

Conversions: Same Game Engine, New Clothes
