Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 : Text Review
When you sink a little deeper, you discover a game in which victory and defeat hinge on a fine line. It's a high-risk, high-reward system that buries you in a brightly colored light show at the slightest misstep.
Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack : Text Review
As one of the first downloadable games available for the Vita on the PlayStation Network, Mutant Blobs Attack sets the bar quite high. It's not a lengthy adventure, but it's effectively designed and doesn't let the hardware's features get in the way of a good time.
Rayman Origins : Text Review : Gameplay Video
This eccentric side-scroller plays every bit as well as it did on consoles, and the Vita's large screen does great justice to the game's vibrant artwork.
Ridge Racer : Text Review
Ridge Racer feels more like a cheap cash-in than a fully thought-out product. There isn't even a single new track for longtime fans to enjoy. If it were a cheap download, then it might be worth a punt, but even at its slightly "cut-down" price, it's a complete and utter rip-off.
Dynasty Warriors Next : Text Review
It may be enough for those who want mindless action, but if you want something deeper, you have no reason to come to the Three Kingdoms.
Lumines: Electronic Symphony : Text Review : Gameplay Video
Months from now when you're looking to enjoy 30 seconds or multiple hours at a time with your Vita, Lumines: Electronic Symphony will still have you covered.
Touch My Katamari : Text Review : Gameplay Video
Returning fans and newcomers alike should find that the newest game in the series provides plenty of reasons to remember the King of the Cosmos again.
HotShots Golf: World Invitational : Text Review : Video Review
World Invitational is another rendition of the same old song, but with a beat this catchy, you'll be humming along all day.
Dungeon Hunter: Alliance : Text Review
These dungeons may be worth hunting in, but you can do that just as well somewhere else.
Little Deviants : Text Review : Video Review
The Deviants themselves add little to the package; their generic brand of wackiness and the insipid looping soundtrack are easy to ignore and mute, respectively.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss : Text Review : Video Review
While the story might not fare so well, thankfully, the action and platforming does--for the most part.
Wipeout 2048 : Text Review : Video Review
If you're expecting heaps of innovation from 2048, you might come away disappointed. But as soon as you dive into the mammoth single-player and multiplayer campaigns to blast a few ships, you'll be having too much fun to notice.
FIFA Soccer : Text Review
There's fluidity to the gameplay that produces some wonderful football, and that paired with the official licenses, great visuals, and slew of modes make for an experience few sports games can match.
Upcoming Reviews
Chris is handy with a sharp blade. Not to mention, a sneaky devil. Who better than to tell you about Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen?
Don't think this is where it ends, though: not by a long shot. Here's what to expect in the coming weeks, along with links to other Vita content we think you'll enjoy. So--enjoy!
What's Hot on GameSpot
@Kevin-V ok I admit I'm late in the game here for replying only now, but I honestly don't read so much of this after putting a comment. My favorite reviewer on here has always been you. One reason is that you do give your honest opinion. Sometimes it's not an opinion because you back it up very well and you are not just a good writer but a good speaker. That said, I am surprised at the replies you are making. Understanding that you really are above all this quarreling AND your comments on the VITA (that I own) are valid. Nothing in your comments were out of pure ignorance. I did find one person (forgot his name, that's how much it mattered) during the show that was plain silly. The all in one device argument was a forced argument and I think that is what people are reacting to. Even when a large number of you folks gave great rebuttals, he kept on beating a dead horse like he was paid to bash lol. What he did was not professional nor was it backed up with any sort of facts. Comparing the Vita to a smart phone is a stretch. Heck even if Sony claimed VITA to replace smart phones, that wont happen. The VITA is attempting to straddle the fence as far as features yes, but it really is a bad smart phone lol. But a smart phone and ipad is a bad hardcore game system like the VITA. I In any case, your opinion is well taken. I just think people reacted to the other guy. I like my VITA quite a lot but it is for gaming. Angry birds doesn't quite give me the same experience lol.
Let us calculate the minimum cost; wi-fi only vita \$250; mandatory 4 gb vita memory card \$20; a boxed game \$30. In short you have to pay minimum \$300 for a beginner's pack. I'd rather get a second ps3 and a new ps3 game :) But of course I'd reconsider my decision after a price cut (I'm sure there will be soon enough:) )
The System is pretty cool....but is it really worth the money Guys? we are talking about at least 450$ with the memory stick with 1 game!!! that's too much!!!!!
I really really want one, but I don't want to pay 299.99. I have 3 PS3s one I got for \$900 at launch and one I got for \$170 from an idiot friend trying to make a buck. Now I am thinking about selling Gamestop one of my PS3's so that I can get this for like \$100 bucks. But can anyone tell me if this system will last in its current state or will they change it over and over and over again. And when will they team up with Firefox to get a better web browser.
I'd like to have one, but not at the cost of 299.99 for a 3G model, 99.99 for a memory card and 39.99 for a game. So, that's 440 dollars not including tax just to get up and running...I'll stick with my PS3 and X Box for now.
The Battery Life does not bother me because I want the Graphics. I could have a 3DS with good Battery Life, but would not want to play any of the Ugly Games. Some People are all about the Gameplay, I am too... But I want it All. Network Play, Graphics, First Person Shooters... That all comes at a Cost. So I could have a Monster System with Better Battery Life -or- I can Have what I bought. The Vita. Uncharted is Awesome so far. Can't wait for Patches for Remote Play, so while the Wife and Daughter Watch TV Shows I am not Interested in, I can play Killzone 3 in Multiplayer !!
I think the Vita will be a huge success, it just needs some time. Only problems I personally see with it are the overpricing of memory sticks and games, also the short battery life is an issue that is also apparent in the 3DS too. But like I said, give it some time and see what games they can do and I have no doubt it will succeed. The cross platform game idea is awesome, could you imagine playing a portable version of Skyrim? How about Batman? I know we all would, and the Vita could make that happen. Let's just see what's next for the thing.
The game lineup sucks and re-releasing old games on a new format is not helping. The price is too high, the memory cards as well. It can no longer hook up to the big screen the way the psp now can which is why I currently own a psp. I want to play some of the games, but I'm not a fan of portable gaming. And what the hell is anyone going to use the touch pad on the back for? They should just stick with the PS3 and screw portable gaming. Nintendo should do the same. That's what the superphones are for. Good games should be made for the good systems only, not the psp vita, assuming they eventually make some.
@outputrotation You can receive texts on it but you can't send them. Why not just use something like Facebook to message people, if your friends are anything like mine, they can't get off the damn thing, chances are they'd get the message.
lol they think 39 is expensive. here it costs \$340
This system is gonna tank.
Cool lineup! VITA has a great headstart, and the fact it's also going to recieve major titles in the following year (COD, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Ghost Warrior, Mortal Kombat, Metal Gear Solid, LittleBigPlanet, MvC3, SF X Tekken) also means it will have a promising library, on it's first year, no less!. Also what I like about VITA, is that it might have Touch and gyroscope functions, BUT it also has proper gaming controls like the D-PAD, buttons, L/R, and thank the heavens-- TWO analog sticks!. That means SONY left every option open and gives developers alot of freedom to work with their games. Hoping for the best of this!
Why can't I make phone calls and txt with this thing? It makes no sense. I don't care how big it is, I'd replace my phone with it. I definitely don't want to have to carry BOTH my phone AND the vita.... Ill wait this one out i think
If sony really wants to make the Vita succeed it should make God of War 4 and the next GT exclusively for the Vita. The PS3 is approaching the end of its life cycle anyways (maybe 2 years left before the next gen hits i.m.o). Peeps need a huge IP to come along and push their hesitation out of way.
Why does everything that sony comes out with have to be uber expensive, I mean seriously, if you make something affordable, more people will buy it, the more people buy it, the more money you will make, and the more money you make the happier you will be, in addition the more people buy it, the more games they will probably buy, and the more games they buy, the more attractive it will be for developers, and the more attractive it is to developers, the more games that will be made for the system and the more games that will be made for the system, the more money you will make. GET WITH THE PROGRAM SONY, GOSH.
getting mine in 2 years when it's in a pawnshop for less than 100 bucks because it fails
WHOA this handheld device that sounds like a sandwich or bread just failed miserably. At least for me. HAHAHA
WHOA! Why is everything so expensive, \$100 for a 32gb memory stick is a bit too much if you ask me, I wanted to get a Vita this weekend but now, I am not too sure. I might just wait a bit and see if the system flies or fails...
Shame no launch fps games.
Getting mine next month.
I just bought a copy of wipeout 2048 (new) which was \$39.99, then I go online to see what's available for download and I find a wipeout 2048 online pack for \$9.99, so now I have to pay for the privilege of online Vita gaming?? WTH?? A word of caution for those thinking of digital downloads of full games, you WILL need the 32 gig memory card. I went from a 4 gig to an 8 gig then had to breakdown and go for the 32 gig. Love the Vita system, just a little high maintenance. :-)
It would certainly be nice to be able to afford one
I like everyones complaing bout gamespots ps vita being critical.its a fact many people are divided bout the high cost of units and memory cards.in japan it sold very well the first 2 weeks than not so good week 3 than it sold 14 thousand units week 4 clearly thats a problem for sony.this week at gamestop and target vita games are buy 2 get 1 free clearly there nervous bout sales too.ps not a fanboy probobly buying my vita on weds just stating facts
@sknight175216 I disagree. Games like Escape Plan and Littlebigplanet Vita take advantage of the new tech like the back touch screen, cameras, gyro sensor, etc. Sony gave developers plenty of tools to make creative games, now it's just up to the developers to actually make them. The launch lineup is mostly comprised of ports because it's a new system. I'm especially excited to see what indie developers do with the Vita.
Sony attempts to try new ventures, but doesn't seem to learn from it's mistakes either.
*waits for it to be cracked and modded, then will be interested*
Is the Vita Doomed? nope. But it wont make any money.

@Darnasian yes web browsing was available on the PSP but the browser wasn't as fully featured as the PS3 one. The main difference was that the PS3 browser supported video playback in various forms and was a lot faster. It was odd connecting to the PS3 to surf the web on the PSP, but it works better than browsing on the PSP... Its actually sort of similar to the technique used by the Kindle Fire when browsing the web, a good portion of the heavy-lifting is done by Amazons servers and then sent to the tablet. So browsing the web via remote play is like cloud-based browsing, except you physically own the device you are browsing with and the server.
@4-Legged-Shark Yep corrected it... It was late when I wrote that...anyway forgot to correct... But wasn't web browsing a feature that was also available on PSP without Remote Play... I know I browsed the web many times with my PSP...
@Darnasian I don't fancy myself a genius, I don't know where you are getting that. When using remote play on the PSP, you are able to play music from your ps3, watch videos, and access a few applications such as the Web Browser and the Playstation store. You can also play PS1 classics via remote play. Obviously, PS3 games are blocked via remote play on the PSP because the PSP does not have the proper controls... also, It is ironic that you misspelled "genius"... juuusst saying...
@sknight175216 Could be running a sony laptop though quote: Technically Microsoft does have a portable gaming system: laptops running Windows.
@4-Legged-Shark First of all you "genius" I said it has to be connected either through a cable or via internet...read again if you really know how to read... Second remote control if connected via cable it has the range of the cable if connected via internet and thorough wifi it has the range of the wifi... Third I don't give a SH*T how suspicoius looks if u have one dislike and I have just one like... Forth your jokes and sarcasm are a little rusty so people don't get it when you are actually joking....maybe u simply don't get it... Fifth your example was really bad... And one question... If you operated your PS3 using your PSP via remote play WTF were you actually able to play from your PS3?...I'm asking because I never operated my PS3 using my PSP but it's not rocket science to figure out taht a PSP can't play that well a PS3 game...not talking about the GTA4 hack for the PSP...idk how they did that...
I'll be sticking with the 3DS for now, but the Vita is really interesting. The screen is particularly crisp, and Bioshock is meant to appear at some point on the system so that will maybe make me buckle. I just hope the Vita doesn't go the way of the PSP and mostly just host games that are smaller versions of the exact same games on home consoles. Handhelds deserve more than that.
Haters gonna hate. Lovers gonna love PSVITA
The Vita's just as expensive as the 3DS lol
the price for the vita is not terrible, they are going all out to make money on the accessories and games so they don't take such a big hit on the system, at least initially!
for all those nay-sayers spouting an all in one device, well,... i bought an android phone because i wanted a gaming device, and was seriously disappointed in it. Angry birds will only get you so far! can't wait till wednesday!
I'm kind of excited for Vita, and for Ninja Gaiden, Lumines, Uncharted and Wipeout. The one I'm the most excited for is Ridge Racer, since I grew up with the series as a kid and love the arcade drift racing style. What I'm NOT so happy about is how I've heard slim to nothing on the PSP game support and older PSP games being ported to VITA. Does anyone know about this? I definitely have Kingdom Hearts BBS on my PSP and I would like to have it on my VITA whenever I decide to get one, but the way they are making people pay for this or may not have some of them (including this one) available is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. Finally, the only gripe that really REALLY hits a nerve for me is how they change memory technology and then give us just 8 GB of memory on the bundles, and then higher than that is once again ridiculously high. MS Pro Duo was working just fine, and it started having a lot of space for a reasonable price. Now to even get a 32GB memory card for a VITA I have to pay another \$100? F*** you too, capitalism.
SHORYUKEN!
@Darnasian I was being nice. The fact of the matter is, you were claiming the Vita needs to be connected with a cable to play games via remote play even on a hacked PS3, I proved you wrong. Then you tried to claim that you had to be within a small range, and again I shot you down. Why you are still attempting to stay in an offensive position I have no clue. I was joking with you by calling you a cheeky F&*%#$ as an act of courtesy. And please stop disliking my comments and liking your own. Don't you think it looks a little suspicious that each of your comments has 1 like and each of mine has 1 dislike?
PS Vita ***droolllsss***
@4-Legged-Shark A bad one...there are lots of better examples... Try something more original not some lousy excuse that everybody uses but they never apply it... Try to think more with that $t brain you say you have...
rayman origins or ninja gaiden sigma plus? never played ninja gaiden so dont know if its for me
Rayman Origins got a really high score on IGN. I think I want to get this one. Atleast until Gravity Rush, Resistance Burning Skies, and Bioshock Vita :)
@sknight175216 awesome list of launch titles! you forgot one... Turbo Graphix 16's BONK!!!!!!!!!!
@Darnasian lol it was an example you cheeky F%*^$#
With a \$300 price tag, I'll wait for some better games to come out
@theJBlounge Thanks for the tip man, ill check it out!
@4-Legged-Shark Nah not opposed...not at all.... But this can backfire easily... Having a hacked software means with time the system deteriorates... Plus I'm waiting for SONY to incorporate this feature properly... Anyway this is cool but really...when you are going to someone you will actually play on you PSV instead of talking to them?... WTF?!?! XD
