One of the more successful
games to run on Sega's System 32 Board, the Spider-Man arcade title
featured four-player action. Once fighting over who got to be Spider-Man
had ended, three other friends could play as Sub-Mariner (aka Namor),
Black Cat, or Hawkeye. All of the characters had the usual punching,
kicking, and midair attacking techniques, but they also had projectile
weapons. Spidey had his webbing, Sub-Mariner had shots of electricity,
Black Cat had her "claw" device, and Hawkeye had his arrows.
This game was released soon after Konami's successful X-Men arcade
title to draw fans of Marvel characters back into arcades. Defeating
both of these titles left many gamers completely sated with Spidey
and company and left them feeling that they'd never play a Marvel
arcade title as true to their comics in the near future. Little
did they know what Capcom had waiting for them....
