As the original military entry into the Street Fighter tournaments, Joe was lacking in the necessary special skills to succeed. While his turn kick was very strong, he was weak against all sorts of aerial assaults. He loves to train in train yards by kicking the sides of boxcars.

Joe's American kickboxing style is unlike that of any of the well-rounded Thai fighters who dominated the original Street Fighter game and its later sequels. Of all of the Street Fighter characters eligible to return in a Street Fighter Alpha sequel, Joe has the least to offer, but if there's a sequel to Street Fighter The Movie, they can get Jeff Speakman to take up Joe's role.
