Gouken
This fighter is a mystery to all, as none have had the pleasure or misery of fighting him, save Gouki (aka Akuma). As Gouki's older, wiser brother, he learned from the same master, Goutsetsu, as Gouki. Once the two brothers were of age and skill, Goutsetsu taught them the killing techniques of Shotokan karate. While Gouki embraced them wholeheartedly, Gouken found them distasteful and dishonorable to the art and refused to use them in a fight. Soon after their training, Gouken found Goutsetsu dead by Gouki's hand. He fled his raging, insane brother, and later settled in the mountains of Japan.

Over the years, his legend grew and many students sought him. He finally agreed to train four warriors, Retsu, Ryu, Ken, and Dan. While Retsu had little potential, as did Dan, he believed they could still be taught the rudimentary skills of Shotokan. When Dan became full of hate and revenge, Dan demanded to learn the killing techniques, and was sent away by Gouken for his folly.

Near the day he was ready to train Ryu and Ken in the advanced techniques of Shotokan, the evil Gouki appeared to him, and sent Gouken to his death over a raging waterfall. Ryu and Ken, still young and untested, were unable to save their master, nor find his body. He has not been seen since. Gouki disappeared into the night, waiting for the day when Ryu or Ken would become a challenge to him. Gouken, in the meantime, is rumored to have survived, and may still be healing from his defeat, though no word has arrived to confirm this. The world can only hope.
