Sony's finally released the 2.0 firmware update in the US, adding a browser, photo sharing, and other features. Talks are also ongoing for Flash support, downloadable games, and USB peripherals. That's nice and all, but where are the games?

Keeping with tradition, id software has released the source code to Quake 3 Arena, allowing garage developers and other wannabe game makers to really delve in and create free games based off the engine.

Majesco quietly backed out of a million-dollar giveaway for players of Advent Rising, citing technical issues. Given its dire financial straits, can we be all that certain it did everything possible to overcome those technical problems? Then again, if you bought it just for the million-dollar offer, maybe you got what you deserved.

Square Enix is on the verge of buying out Taito, best known for its classic games like Operation Wolf, Elevator Action, and Bubble Bobble. While still significant from a business perspective, this announcement probably doesn't impact consumers as much as the initial Square Enix merger.
