Stop right there criminal scum. Our The Elders Scrolls V Skyrim Walkthrough provides strategies for the main quest, crafting tips, and secrets about guilds.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

A Cornered Rat

Riften is in the far southeast. Due to its great distance it's probably best to find a wagon and pay the fee to get there quickly. Your goal is to find Esbern, but you only have one lead: a man named Brynjolf. This character can be found outside in the market during the day, and most likely in the tavern at night. Speak to him and he'll inform you about the thieves guild hideout under Riften. It seems the guild is protecting Esbern for now and you'll need to travel to the underground Ratway Warrens.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Inside, expect to be attacked by two named brutes Hewnon Black-Skeever and Drahff. One uses an axe and shield while other is an archer. Despite being named NPCs they die quickly like any other thug. They may also have a bit more gold and jewels to loot than normal bandits. There are alternate routes, but as they all require very high lock picking, from here head southwest and you'll locate a booby trapped door. Stand back a few inches and open the door to avoid being stabbed. Once through the door continue south and fight through a few weak Skeever and Gian the Fist; as his name implies he's unarmed so not much of a problem. After the fight there will be an alchemy lab to the east if you want to mix some more potions, otherwise keep following the objective marker southeast. Kill the weak Lowlife in the next room and head north to lower the exit draw bridge--you won't be taking this escape just yet, but it will save time later on. Backtrack east and you'll come into the Ragged Flagon.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

For future reference, the Ragged Flagon is the thieves guild hideout and we will cover it in later sections. For now head over to the Flagon bar and talk to Vekel the Man. Ask him about Esbern but he isn't very willing. If your speech is high enough you can persuade him, but there is also the option of paying for info or brawling fist-vs-fist. If you've been going one handed brawling Vekel is the easiest and cheapest option. After the fight head east into the deeper Ratway Warrens.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Get ready to face a lighting Thalmor Wizard, and two Thalmor Soldiers. They fight exactly like the ones you encountered in Solitude, so use the same tactics. However, it also helps to make sure you follower has a good bow. With this you can drop down below and pummel the soldiers while your follower snipes from the higher ground; alternately you can be the sniper, but the follower's AI is poor enough that they probablly won't drop down to the lower floor.

Once the enemies are dead, head south and you'll come to two chests: one with gold and lockpicks and the other closed tight with an apprentice level lock. We only found gold inside, but it still might be worth opening to train up your lockpicking skills. Return back to the main dungeon room and journey south to the next floor of the warrens. Pick the next lock on the left to get into the main holding cells. You may be attacked by either Hefid the Deaf or Knjakr if you get to close to them, but they are too poorly equipped to be a threat. On the the hand Salvianus is completely passive: you can outright steal his belongs and he won't even try and defend himself. But you're not here to mess with the other patrons. Head up to the top room and speak with Esbern. Mention Delphine and quote her about "remember the 30th of Frostfall". Once you say you're Dragonborn, Esbern will join your side.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Walkthrough

Start your exit out and you'll have to fight two more Thalmor soldiers. Esbern is a helpful caster and even Salvianus might assist in fighting the Thalmor. Watch out though, Esbern isn't a full companion and might get in a fight with whatever follower is already in your party. Simply exit the room and both sides should be peaceful again. Now just exit out the Warrens and return to Riverwood.Once Esbern and Delphine meet you'll have your next goal: Find the Sky Haven Temple.

Okay so, I don't know if anyone's answered this or not, but.... If the whole point of this scene is to go through all this sh*t & get fighting experience, then discover the horn ISN'T actually there and you actually have to go to Riverwood to retrieve it....

Can't you just skip this scene altogether and just go right on over to Riverwood? Or is something crucial supposed to happen (besides loot stuff & fighting skills) that you cannot miss?

Just someone please tell me if I can skip it & just go to Riverwood, or if I HAVE to complete this part.

Start a new character and in the first house that you can get your first weapons, the NPC that helps you, waits for you to take a key from 1 dead soldier and open the door..... DONT open the door, go in sneak/stealth mode and backstab him as much as you want.... He does NOT die..... I left there with 44 level 1 handed weapons and 100 level sneak. Character level about 18.  I could wait more to get 1 handed weapons in 100 but i got bored..... ^^

+It's only 50 gold to get to Solitude from Whiterun, and if u don't have 50 gold, then u r spending waaaaayy too much, and only doing the main quest

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there meant to be a word wall in this dungeon? This guide misses out on the shout so I was just wondering if this is a foolish mistake or what?

How do you put spells or souls into your weapons? I just started playing the game, and all the stuff that can be done is a little overwhelming.

slipweav2k
slipweav2k

@YariStar find an enchanting table, there you can break enchanted weapons or clothes or jewelry etc. you break these items to learn the spell, after a spell is learned you can use the table to enchant you own belongings, as long as you have filled soul gems, the bigger the soul gem the more powerful the spell will be. to fill soul gems you need a soul trap spell or a weapon with soul trap capabilities, the bigger the creature the bigger the soul.

Do you have to finish the main quests before going to side quests? or is it just better to finish them first?

hmoobpaladin
hmoobpaladin

@lolgamer73 No, you can finish the main quest and do the sidequests if you want. I always do sidequests first before finishing the main story. It's up to you. Not sure if there are any missable sidequests for completing the main quest first.

OK, don't laugh, please. but I can't figure out how to use the PS3 controls to take and then equip objects. Some of them just "follow" me and I don't know how to pick them up. Some of them make it to my inventory but some don't. What buttons do I push to get this stuff? Before you think I'm stupid, I'm not, I'm just a LittleOldLadyGamer that hasn't forgotten her inner child :)

hmoobpaladin
hmoobpaladin

@lolgamer73 You can't equip objects. Only weapons, armor, rings and necklaces. You can pick up objects by pressing X or drag them around by clicking R3.

Hi guys, I just got Skyrim yesterday and it's a cool game but I seem to be stuck at one section in the golden claw part and it's annoying the hell out of me! When I get to the chest at the end of the tunnel where I've slashed up all the undead dudes and got past the spike door and the swinging blades I pull that chain that opens the iron gate over the stream and then I can only go a few meters into the cave and I get blocked by a heaps of rocks in the way that wont let me go any further. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something that I've missed that makes the game do that? Any help would be awesome! Cheers.

where can i find and enchanted armor, or apparel item ; boots , necklace, shield ; etc. enchanted with firewalker that i can break. my character is a vampire, and i need fire resistance on my armor.

slipweav2k
slipweav2k

@jolene26 just enchant your own armor, you have to disenchant something with the effect first(to learn it), your skills will improve, as will your enchantment, the more you use the enchantment tables.

@jolene26 sorry i didnt read you question properly, there is a theft merchant at the college of winterhold that had a necklace that had 30% fire resistance, hope that helps

Doing "In My Time of Need" quest where I need to talk to Alik'r prisoner in jail. Apparently need to unlock the jail cell in order to talk to the prisoner. I have pickpocketed 4 jail keys from guards, but at cell door I keep getting the message that I need a key. What am I overlooking or doing wrong?

Who the Hell is Drelas and why is he trying to kill me?!? I'm quite a way into the game and don't remember how I might have slighted this fellow, but he surely wants me dead and I can't figure out why.

Papajack55
Papajack55

@Lantazan  Drelas is a wizard who has a cottage and if you find him, he tries to kill you with magicka powers. If you kill him though, you inherit his cottage. If there are things that still say "steal," which they shouldn't, unless he's still alive. I was stumbling around and came across his cottage and he tried to kill me, so I zapped him dead with my shout of fire. I instantly got his cottage. You will officially have another home.

Lantazan

.......maybe because I just went busting into his house on a rainy afternoon, but I remember that guy's name from somewhere and the quest log has no record.

I'm stuck on a side quest for words of power.  The area that is stoping me is a riddle of sorts from "the four totums" or something like that.  the door I need to go through is locked and the only way to get to the other side tis to solve the riddle.  The totums must be activated in order.   Each totum has an animal on it's face.

The animals are as follows:  Fox, Wolf, Bear, and Snake.  (Not Nessessarily in that Order).

The Riddle goes something like this:  The first fears all: the Second fears none.  The third will eat the first  and the forth when allone fears the second.  Again I'm not positive agout the exact wording but this ai all I have.  Could someone please give me the correct order for this riddle.

Thanks,  Game_Bastard
