Number Ten:
Barret Wallace
Final Fantasy VII
Barret Wallace didn't make our list, but readers love him! Barret is a big guy, and even though he's tough, he has a heart. Most of you who voted for Barret cited his strength and his loyalty to his cause and to hero Cloud Strife as the main reasons why he is the best sidekick. Some of you preferred brawn to brains, though, citing his ability to talk the talk and walk the walk - as well as having a gun for an arm - as the reasons why Barret deserves top billing.

"One who has never played Final Fantasy VII would assume that from all outward appearances, Barret is a big, burly, dangerous-looking guy with a heavy-duty autocannon for a right arm. And the assumption would be correct. Barret is a tough, trash-talking freedom fighter who would rather blast than think his way out of a rough situation. However, inside that rough exterior lies an intelligent, kind-spirited man with one goal on his mind: the survival of the planet that he calls home. As leader of the rebel group Avalanche, Barret jumps into the most dangerous situations imaginable, but not for his own personal benefit. Instead, he fights the powerful Shinra in order to save everything and everyone he loves. Even though he considers himself leader of Avalanche, he allows Cloud (to whom he is a sidekick) to lead the group, and he loyally follows Cloud through good times and bad, only rarely complaining about his absence as leader.
