9. Diablo

You didn't care that there was only one ending, and that it was the same no matter what class you played -the dark ending of Blizzard's Diablo made it one of your favorites.

"The magnitude of your character's act was incredible. After fighting off hundreds of demons to get to Diablo, you end up cursing yourself so the Great Evil may be contained. It was fantastic." - Hans Kelso

"You think it's just going to be another 'kill the monster' game, and when you get to the end you find out that you've not defeated Diablo, you've only killed the boy whose body he was possessing, and now you have Diablo in the soul stone, just as things were before you barged onto the scene. And rather than just leaving it there, your character thrusts the stone into his skull (ouch!) and is immediately assailed by the evil and pervasive nature of Diablo as he tries to overwhelm your mind and take over your body as well. The game ends with the sight of the hero wandering off to the east, hoping for salvation but suspecting he's probably doomed. Not quite the 'happily ever after' I was expecting on my way through the dungeons down to hell." - Flux

"After fighting through 16 levels of blood, horror, and hell, and finally killing Diablo himself, the devil turns the tide. Your character is overcome with the desire to contain the evil held within the crystal; accomplished only by using your soul as a prison. While not the greatest cinematic, you do see your character, walking along, as you are told how you struggle to contain the evil within you from ever again resurfacing. The irony: Diablo wanted a stronger body, and he used his minions to strengthen and hone your body, that he might become its host. All of your efforts were totally in vain; but we don't learn that until later." - Jacob Robinson

"The hero sticking that rock thingy in his head really freaked me out." - Zack Waurin
