Ten Best Heroes in Gaming

So many games, so few strong protagonists. Since there are thousands of games out there, it's easy for lead characters to get lost in the crowd. In many cases, all you get is some poor slob to pit against an arch-nemesis - someone whom you can assign some sort of long-term goal, vague or otherwise, then throw it all together, stir, and serve.
Once in a while you'll come across a lead that's different. Somehow, that character manages to set himself apart from the others. Maybe he looks or sounds completely unique. Maybe he's got some really nifty special abilities. Maybe he's got a distinctive personality. Whatever the case, you remember that hero long after you've shelved that game, and even after you've played through many others.
So, we put our heads together, literally. Many of us are still hospitalized with various concussions and fractures from all the head-butting that took place in that dark, dank, dungeon-like conference room. Fortunately for us, we managed to come up with ten such heroes before anyone died. It wasn't easy to choose just ten; we had to nix some of our other favorites, like Space Quest's Roger Wilco and Monkey Island's Guybrush Threepwood, to make room for our own ten best. Submitted here for your enjoyment are GameSpot's Ten Best Heroes, in alphabetical order. (And if you don't agree... be sure to talk back!)
