You've conquered the Sword Coast, and the Iron Throne's schemes have been thwarted. Sarevok and his minions have been routed, and you've uncovered the secret of your character's origins. Credits roll. It must be time to stash away the morning stars, sheath Drizzt's scimitars, fold away the Shadow Armor, and return those well-worn spell books to dusty shelves stocked with similar tomes. But wait... hadn't the Halflings of Gullykin and your map of the Sword Coast hinted at a mysterious stronghold of evil, Durlag's Tower? Could there be hidden treasure on those unexplored islands to the west of the Sword Coast? Perhaps there are also subterranean lairs that you haven't yet uncovered, and settlements where an abundance of powerful magical items can be purchased or earned. Welcome to Tales of the Sword Coast, the expansion pack to 1998's RPG of the Year, Baldur's Gate.

Bioware's Baldur's Gate was not only one of the most anticipated games in recent memory, it was also one of the very few games that managed to satisfy gamers' lofty expectations. With its gigantic and beautiful gaming world, solid adaptation of the complex rules of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, and compelling combat system, Baldur's Gate was devoured by gamers hungry for a traditional fantasy role-playing game. Early during the development of Baldur's Gate, Ray Muzyka, producer of the game and joint-CEO of Bioware, commonly spoke of Bioware's intention to support Baldur's Gate with one or more mission packs that would fulfill the same role that new "modules" serve in pen-and-paper AD&D. Tales of the Sword Coast is the first of what may develop into a series of expansion packs that will enlarge the gaming world of Baldur's Gate and allow gamers to continue to develop their characters while waiting for the inevitable sequel.
