Mega Mecha Machinations
| | This massive behemoth is the Predator MCA, the toughest one of the lot. |
While Shogo has plenty of action on foot, it just wouldn't be an anime shooter without some mecha action. To that effect, a significant portion of the game requires you to pilot your MCA (Mobile Combat Armor). Think of them as a cross between the Patrol Labors (suits) of Patlabor and the transforming Valkyrie fighters of Macross, and you'll get the idea. At varying points in the game, you'll be able to pilot one of four basic MCA types and wield weaponry that rivals any other game for pure destructive value. Like the Macross Valkyries, these MCAs can shift between vehicle and bipedal mode. Finally, each MCA has a tractor beam that will pull objects (such as infantry) closer to you.
| | You can get a feel for the height of the MCAs when you leave the MCA bay and look down upon the humans. |
You may or may not get the chance to pilot more MCAs than what follows, but these four were the ones I played in the beta version.
Shogo Akuma Series 12
This is the Hermes of MCAs. It's light, a bit on the frail side, but ummatched in terms of speed. You'll want to use this MCA on scouting missions or for those missions that call upon speed and stealth.
| | Each of the MCAs is like a Macross Valkyrie: a giant suit that can transform when needed. |
Armacham Ordog Advanced Series 7
This is one of the two middle-of-the-road MCAs. This one has a good balance of speed and armor and is well suited for just about any task. When you transform into vehicle mode, it's faster than the Enforcer MCA but doesn't handle quite as well.
Andra 25 Predator
This is the circus strongman of the MCAs. Yes, it's huge compared with the other MCAs, intimidating, and slow to move. But, it's undeniably the toughest MCA of the bunch and can take the sort of pounding that would cripple lesser MCAs.
UCA Enforcer Mark VII
The standard UCA MCA, it's the other balanced combat armor of the group. It's not quite as fast as the Ordog, but it handles a lot better, so if you want a universal MCA that is responsive to your controls and can hold itself in a firefight, the Enforcer is the MCA for you.
