Screen Tear: The Video Game Clip Show - First Episode

John Davison
By John Davison, Vice President, Programming

Carlos Rodela hosts our new video game clip show in which Mario meets Tim from Braid, Nintendo executives get beaten up, and... crystal meth?

Screen Tear is GameSpot's brand-new show, starring our witty and handsome host Carlos Rodela. He may seem familiar if you've seen some of his other shows in the past, such as "Rad on the Web," "Press Pause," or "Cranky Geeks." Every Friday, he will be bringing you the newest, funniest, weirdest, and dumbest video game clips from the past week and squeezing them all into an easy to digest five-minute show.

In this week's episode, Mario meets Tim from Braid, Nintendo executives get beaten up, and we see a creative use for meth cooking as a potential gameplay mechanic.

If you want to check out the clips from this episode in their entirety, here are the links.

The general idea of Screen Tear needs reiteration.

Majkic666 38 pts

So this is just made to throw crap on games, developers and so on in a bad way? fell like wasting my time

bizuit 24 pts

I was hoping for a list of the worst screen tears of all time in video games

Stay tuned for a few changes in the next episode! We'll be addressing some issues from the pilot, and have a ton of ideas.

oldschoolvandal 48 pts

Not sure I got the point...the video went everywhere without really saying anything. Maybe it should be a little more focused or at least elaborate further the ideas.

Nic345 7 pts

Kinda reminds me of RWJ or any other clip show I like the idea.

georgeschall 9 pts

the guys from Gamespot UK are making some pretty nice, informative AND funny videos. keep those up, stop wasting money on this. the reason I like gamespot is because it's not IGN.

JangoF-76 11 pts

Yeah, sorry but I don't really get it. Is it supposed to be funny? Maybe this kind of 'humour' goes over better in the US. I'll stick with Start/Select and Bluffer's Guide, thanks. PS. About 'rad'...some teenage skaterboys from the mid '90s called - they want their word back.

Do you know why I hate IGN ?Besides the fact that they always inflate review scores,They disrespect me and all the viewers by hiring hot girls(that don't know anything about games or even like games) to host their shows, instead of someone who actually knows something about games and enjoys them.Don't get me wrong,I like women but I don't like cheap tricks that are meant to attract horny teenagers!

that apeture song is in my head...thanks for that...this was pretty amusing - loved the snap at IGN :)

I kinda enjoyed The Nintendo clip, with game executives kicking butt. In super mario land.

basianman 5 pts

Did they really took a shot at IGN? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and isn't Jessica Chobot the host of Start? who's that guy with the glasses?

bizzySGS 13 pts

I love this show ! But it's kind of hard to find on the site. And I don't want to subscribe to gamespot on youtube because I like to come here on gamespot.com . If anyone from the gamespot staff is reading this,PLEASE CREATE A SECTION WHERE WE CAN WATCH THIS HERE ON THE SITE !

DeadrisingX1 35 pts

I'll stick with the Bluffer's guide, thanks.

CarlosRodela 7 pts

wait let me get this straight .. josephreynil you have your wife dress up as bayonetta? haha

josephreynii 8 pts

I come to gamespot everyday. I liked this because it distracted me for five minutes from my college work that I am probably too old to be attending anyway. I would like to see more things Bayonetta related in future episodes if you guys are taking requests. My rule 34 searches have been coming up dry lately, and my wife is tired of dressing up. Thank you for your time.

gamerzombie i agree the whole clip is rad - as a whole. we only have so many minutes tho with each show. we're def in agreement to show more clip tho - so you can see WHY you should check out the link to the full thing

Gamerzombie 5 pts

The Braid video is much better in it's entirety. How about you show the whole clip, or else it's like a joke without the set-up. Other than that, it's a great idea for a show.

CarlosRodela 7 pts

slayers s3 that Skyrim Schmyrim is awesome. we try to use videos that are the newest and have very little views - to pimp them and to be getting you all the latest clips. but i think we should add in some oldies but goodies section. right? cause I didnt know about this video

CarlosRodela 7 pts

hippiesanta who WOULD you like to see us insult then? ha (and it wasnt an insult .. just a friendly game industry dis-told em about it). and your welcome for nma.tv -youll lost a lot of time to that site.

CarlosRodela 7 pts

I would add that unlike a ton of other shows out there we are actually reading and responding to you (on the official gamespot site as well). What videos SHOULD we make fun of (minecraft seems to be OFF limits!ha)? Give us some ideas on what you want to see in the skits (we'll be adding now that episode 1 is through the door) and what games or videos we should poke fun at or promote and just say is awesome. We'll listen!

CarlosRodela 7 pts

gameguy182 thanks for kind of really linking it. ha. we have a lot of other ideas on the way

CarlosRodela 7 pts

aireeez that STILL makes me laugh and i saw it probably 30 times now

CarlosRodela 7 pts

Also the idea is that you the viewers could send in videos and have them on the show (and get a shoutout). And lastly, the jokes and freedom to be less 'presenter person' are coming. We had to assemble a show with some structure and jokes that were a? bit on the nose - until we get the greenlight to take off and go for it. Cool?

CarlosRodela 7 pts

This is the first iteration of it and we dig? the clip idea, because there's so many rad and funny (and dumb) game videos out there-no one has time to go thru em all. That being said the show is in it's infancy and we're still working out the kinks. It's not in reply to IGN's channel (that joke was a friendly 'how do ya do' and way to promote them as well). Tangents and guest cameos are up next.

When I first saw this I said to myself "oh my god, what the hell is this?" Then I watched it, and you know what? I liked it. I kind of really liked it. I like funny video game videos on youtube. Now I have something that shows me the funniest ones to watch.

snake8877 9 pts

soldier 235689 i did not watch 30 minutes of this because it only lasts 4:49 :P

Soldier235689 5 pts

thumbs up if you didn't even watch 30 minutes of this

Bamul 51 pts

I don't understand why so many people are whining here (let's not even talk about the comments on the youtube upload). Sure, I agree that this isn't as great as the Bluffer's Guides (or the funnier episodes of Start Select), but it certainly isn't bad. :P

manicwagon 13 pts

I gotta say, for a clip show; there was a surprisingly large percentage of some dude just talking.
