The Nameless City
Shub-Niggurath's Pit

The Palace of Hate continues the tradition of more monsters and less health - and adds a number of environmental traps to boot. You may want to save your game often, because the traps are well hidden and extremely deadly. It’s easy to get lost among the many hallways and areas, most of which are accessible right at the beginning. Your only real goal is to find the silver key, which is most easily accessed from Secret Area 4.

Shoot this solar disc and a secret alcove will open behind you. Turn around quickly, because it also released a fiend. The glow in the room beyond is a healing pool, which is very useful on this level

Secret Area 1
Find the large red window in the first large area you come to. Turn around. Above the doorway is a sun-shaped symbol. Shoot the symbol to open a secret area behind you, and unleash a fiend, who will immediately attack from behind. This area contains a Pentagram of Protection.

Beneath this elevator you'll find a passageway leading to a red armor

Secret Area 2
Through the doorway with the sun symbol is a small pool. This "healing pool" will give you 25 health points when you step into it. This will work a limited number of times.

In the blue-brick hallways, you'll come to a dead-end with two descending wall. One is actually an elevator leading to this secret area

Secret Area 3
A slender elevator will take you up to the second level of the first area. Step onto it, then back off. Underneath is an area with red armor.

Secret Area 4
In the blue-bricked area, you will come to a darkened dead-end. The walls on either side of you will descend, unleashing some knights. One wall will almost immediately ascend. It is actually an elevator to Secret Area 4. If you miss it the first time, walk back down the hall and approach the dead end again. When it is down, walk onto it. It will lead to a Quad Damage and a super nailgun. There is also a teleporter here, which will transport you to the Ring of Shadows, which is otherwise protected by a trap.

The Pentagram in the corner, and a well-placed grenade, are your keys to accessing the elevated teleporter

Secret Area 5
The fifth secret is somewhat hard to reach. Cross the pool after grabbing the Ring of Shadows. Jump onto the far moving platform and ride it to the area with the silver key. Quickly dispose of the fiend, then grab all the goodies except for the Pentagram of Protection. It’s a good idea to save your game here. Grab the Pentagram, then stand under the elevated teleporter. Look down into the trench and fire a grenade. Time your jump so that you are in the air as the grenade explodes; the upward force will send you into the teleporter.
