Easily the most confounding level of Episode 2, the Ebon Fortress is filled with tight corridors, dead ends, and misleading pathways. Fortunately, much of the combat is in close quarters with ogres and death knights, so you can use the techniques outlined in the introduction to great effect.

The Gold Key
Getting the gold key is actually unnecessary, as the gold door only leads to a small corridor with some armor and health. The key itself is located in the murky hallways filled with zombies. After you’ve entered the main structure, continue through the huge, water-filled courtyard to the hallway on the left. In the central alcove of these zombie-infested catacombs, you will find the key and some yellow armor.

Secret Area 1
After you pass over the small, ogre-dominated bridge, you will come to a large, open room. Walk down the steps and turn around. A small inlet leads to a wall next to the stairs. Hit the back wall and you’ll be granted access to a small room under the stairs with 100 health kitand a box of rockets. The gold door is located nearby, in the square room to the right as you exit Secret Area 1.

Secret Area 2
From Secret Area 1, walk forward and ascend the steps leading to the bridge over the room. Turn to your right and examine the wall on the far side, directly across from the gold door. You’ll notice a panel made of wood, not stone, partially obscured by shadows. You’ll also notice a thin ledge leading to this area. Walk across the ledge to reach the panel, then hit it. In the room beyond lies a Pentagram of Protection.

If you look closely, you'll notice the far wall has one wooden panel - which is the doorway to a Pentagram of Protection

At the end of the corridor leading out of this room, you’ll find a biosuit. The biosuit is unnecessary, unless you want some insurance in case you fall off the platform that carries you across the toxic river. To find this platform, take the slender elevator located just before the corridor’s end. A star button is located on the small ledge at the top. Press this button, then jump on the metal platform that appears.

The Silver Key
While riding the platform, look to your left just after you pass under the bridge. Jump onto the steps leading up from this doorway. The silver key is located behind the bars blocking most of this room. To access the key, walk across the bridge and press the star button at the end of the corridor. This will also release the fiend guarding the key, but a few well-placed rockets should put him out of his misery before he so much as scratches you.

Secret Area 3
After you get the silver key, drop down into the small rectangular pool of toxic slime located just across the walkway. Swim down into the tunnel to find red armor and a biosuit.

Directly across from the Silver Door, you'll see this button. Shoot it to access Secret Area 4

Wearing the biosuit from Secret Area 3, jump into the large toxic river. Turn right and swim to the corner, where you’ll find a Quad Damage.

Secret Area 4
Walk through the hallway past the scrags. You'll see an elevator, and just past it, a closed-off room. Walk back through the hallway and look through the windowsdirectly opposite the silver door. You'll see a red button illuminated high on the wall. Shoot the button to open the area, where you'll find some nails, 100 health, and a Quad Damage - all of which will be very useful once you open the silver door.

Look up in the exit courtyard and shoot these three buttons to lower the barriers

After you’ve defeated the monsters behind the silver door - which isn’t easy, considering the shambler waiting at the top of the stairs - go back through the level and round up all of the health kits you may have passed up. Then head up the stairway behind the silver door. Go to the center of the walkway and turn around. A button will have appeared on the far wall. Shoot the button to access an elevator. Ride the elevator down, where several ogres and fiends will be waiting. Take them on yourself, or run around the area and hop back on the elevator - they’ll do some serious damage to each other. To lower the bars blocking the exit, look up and shoot the three buttons located high on the castle walls.
