Without question, MicroProse's all-new M1 Tank Platoon II is one of the most realistic and comprehensive armored warfare simulations currently available, allowing you to experience the rigors of modern combat firsthand from the turret of an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. Of course, assuming direct command of a 70-ton behemoth is only half the fun; appreciating how these multimillion dollar machines are best employed on today's fluid battlefield and how they operate - in conjunction with other unit types - should help to further your understanding of modern warfare.
The following guide should help you better understand the tactics used by today's soldiers and how our warriors would likely address and respond to each scenario portrayed in the game. It begins by examining each of the eleven hypothetical engagements, providing information concerning the deployment of both friendly and enemy forces, and how you can optimize your chances of achieving success. Immediately thereafter, we will analyze each of the hypothetical engagements portrayed within the NATO theater of operations, followed by detailed discussions on each of the historical engagements depicted in the Gulf War operation.
Understand that we have deliberately sidestepped any discussion on the campaigns, largely because each campaign has been dynamically constructed and, as such, falls outside the scope of this guide. Frankly, there are far too many variables to consider in a dynamic campaign to provide a worthwhile strategy, as the outcome of each battle has a direct impact on each of the subsequent engagements within a campaign. Nevertheless, we're sure that the lessons you'll learn here will help you to plan and implement your own winning strategies in the campaigns.
