Heron Guards
Heron Guards were once feared and proud fighters, but they have since become the peaceful healers known as Journeymen. Their dual blades and quick feet made them the primary defenders of a bygone era.

Well, they're back (thanks to events you will witness in the campaign), combing the best of their old selves and their most recent occupation: In addition to their powerful fighting skills and heavy armor, Heron Guards retain the healing powers they learned as Journeymen. Though they begin most missions with only one healing root, they can stock up.

character shot Activate the Heron Guards' healing power by pressing the Special Attack Key (T by default) and clicking on the unit you want to heal. As with the Journeymen, the Heron Guard's healing spell restores most but not all of the target's health. Remember that Heron Guard units can heal themselves as well as other units. Keep your eyes peeled for scrub brush near riverbanks; they can be hacked up for additional healing roots.

In rare instances, the Heron Guard can use their healing power offensively. Since many of Soulblighter's units are undead, they can actually be "unhealed" by the application of the Heron Guard's spell. Thrall, Ghasts, Soulless, and Wights can all be unhealed. Note that the Heron Guard needs a fair amount of time to cast the spell, so you will not be able to use it when an enemy unit is too close. Another use of this same power comes in multiplayer games: The Heron Guard can unheal Wights to break them into explosive Pus Packets. These can be picked up and thrown by Ghôls to stun the opposition.

If you've always been frustrated by having to hold the slow Journeyman in the rear of your formations, the return of the Heron Guard will be cause for celebration.
