With the holiday season fast approaching, gamers everywhere wait in frenzied anticipation for the traditional end-of-year game release glut. But among the hundreds of games scheduled to ship before year's end, Myth II: Soulblighter from Bungie stands out as one of the most eagerly anticipated. After taking a long look at a late beta of the game, I'm convinced that this anticipation will be well rewarded. Myth II, a full-fledged sequel to last year's real-time strategy epic, is brimming over with new gameplay features, graphics enhancements, and multiplayer tweaks. In short, Myth II appears to be twice the game that Myth was - and that's good news indeed for Bungie's devoted fans.
The level of detail in the terrain, the buildings, and the units in Myth II is astounding.
In this preview, I'll tell you all about the new and improved features you can expect to see in Myth II (which, by the way, is currently scheduled to ship in mid to late November). Though the version I tested (beta 3) was far from complete, it did allow me to play through 12 of the game's single-player levels and a pair of new multiplayer maps. I also got to check out Bungie.net 2.0 and the Myth II editing tools: Fear and Loathing.
Let's start things off with a discussion of the numerous graphical enhancements in Myth II. From there, we'll move on to the new units and gameplay features, the improved multiplayer support, and the powerful editing tools. If you thought waiting for Myth II's release was difficult before, just wait until you finish reading this preview....
