After exiting submarine, look right and do a
little fishing. Continue down walk and enter
woodshop. Nothing works because there is no power. Go
through the back door to the wind power chamber. Look
at the gear mechanism, connect the drive shaft to the
gear box with the lever on the left, turn to the fan
tower, hold the left lever until fan tower completely
extended, then move right lever.

Return to the woodshop and cut wood. Saw two long
pieces by turning on the saw and clicking the wood,
then saw four wide boards in two by doing the same at
the other workbench.

You will use the lumber to build a bridge across
an unseen moat through the doorway to the left of the
window.

Save your game
If you attempt to build your bridge now, the
fortress monster will break it to smithereens. You
need to wait for him to move out of harm's way. To do
that you need to look out the window at least four times,
stepping away from it each time. With each peek,
he'll be somewhere else: first below you, attempting
to grab a fish (there's some foreshadowing), then
alone below you, then on an upper walkway, and
finally he'll walk to the right. When he walks
off-screen you can build the bridge uninterrupted by
first placing the long planks then the wide ones.

About to blast the monster at the
fortress
Before you do anything else you need to rid the
fortress of the monster. Make your way up to the highest
tower you can find. You get there from the wind power
chamber. At the top, look up to see a hook. Place the
fish there, then go back down, across your bridge,
through the foundry, and up to a platform with a
cannon. Release the pin, open the cannon, load powder
and a cannon ball, put in a piece of fuse, wait for
the monster to arrive and reach for the fish, then
light the fuse with your cigarette lighter (you need
to click the lighter twice in the inset to open and
light it). Adios monster.

The foundry at the fortress
In the other tower you have not yet visited,
because the monster blocked your way, is the Ornithopter.
It's missing a part, which you need to make in the
foundry. Place logs and coal in the furnace, light
them with your lighter or the torch on the wall, add
metal ingots to the crucible, and move it into the
furnace, waiting 30 seconds before pulling it out or
it will cool. Place the opened mold from the
workbench in the slot on the table by the crucible,
press the button to fill it, use the lever to move
the mold to the cooling bath, then move it back, and
remove the part.

Move back to the tower room with the statue,
continue out the other door and over to the Ornithopter
tower. Pick up a key off the workbench to the right
and return to that statue. Look down, use the key to
open the secret compartment, and retrieve the Ion
Cannon vacuum pump.

Now fix the Ornithopter. Find the broken wing on
the other side and click your replacement part in place.
Move the lever by the bench to rotate the bird,
attach the drive shaft to its tail, turn the crank to
power it up, enter the cockpit, turn the crank on the
left, slide the little lever on the upper right, pull the
left lever to flap wings, and release the hand brake
to launch the bird.
