I dont agree this game is free to play, even this event costs real money to spend on gems to buy things you need (and even it's a gamble whether you get something good or not). I do really enjoy the game but to describe it F2P is misleading and is, in fact, not the truth. It's subscription free and that is all, to see and do everything the game has to offer will cost you more money than your initial outlay.
@ChillingSky I'm not sure you fully understand what free to play is, but more accurately it's buy to play. But anyway look at LoL a free to play game, you only unlock characters by either buying or playing and gathering IP, same with GW you can buy get gems from gold. Unlike Allods (which is also F2P) you dont have to spend money to have an advantage over other players, and buying optional stuff cannot be compared to subscription based games such as WoW.
Anyway, I completed every part of the event without spending a sent, sure you can buy an MK costume, but that is optional and I had a blast without it.
Well you were one of the only people in GW2 that had enough keys and %chance rate to get all the skins.
In fact no you were THE only one. There are literally tons of people on various GW2 forums saying how they spent money on keys to open chests and they didn't even get one rare. So basically it was gambling.
The skins are in no way needed or required to progress in the game. They are part of the game though so to experience them you would have to spend real money. Unless they have of course your godlike chance at loot lol
Yes I am fully aware of what free to play is, something that everyone harks on about GW2 being. Which, as you and I have pointed out, is not true.
I won't reply anymore, this post is nearly two weeks old, the game event is over and now a pointless discussion.
@ChillingSky People who describe it as free to play don't know what "free" means. The game costs $60! That is not free. This is free of monthly subscription not free to play.
they know this im sure. it just might as well be free to play, also easyer to describe it as such because most people relate to mmorpg's as either "free to play" or "subscription".
try not to freak out everytime the math dosent add up
@ChillingSky That's total BS considering you can use in game currency to buy things in the gem store. And outside of cosmetics, "everything the game has to offer" comes with the cost of the game.
@ChillingSky @Battlemed @saruman354 or you could just not buy black lion keys, they dont give you anything that will improve the game experience all the content within the game is available when you buy the box
@ChillingSky @Battlemed @saruman354 Or you could, you know, just use your gold to buy gems. You don't need to use money. How long does it honestly take to you grind gold?
OMG why is Gamespot filled with idiots... Read what I wrote, I said if you want to see and do everything the game has to offer then you need to spend more money, Currently there is a issue with the amount of chests dropping vs the number of keys to be able to unlock them and get the crafting stuff for the event, if you played the game you would know this. Google it. It is simply not practical nor would you have to time to grind enough gold to buy the keys.
I never said it was pay to win, I said if you want to see all the game has to offer.
Stop being such a defense stupid idiot all your life and learn to read before making a comment, you make yourself look dumb!
@ChillingSky @saruman354 yes it does, and it's not obligatory, there is no "pay-to-win" item in the store, just cosmetic and stuff.
