Wondering what Vice City looks like on Apple's retina display iPad? Check out these clips from the beginning of Rockstar's seminal crime shooter.
It's been 10 years since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City landed on the PlayStation 2 to huge critical acclaim. And even now the game is regarded as one of, if not the best Grand Theft Auto game to emerge from the creative minds over at Rockstar.
To celebrate the game's 10-year anniversary, Vice City has been released on iOS and Android for the princely sum of $4.99. And, in the case of iOS at least, the visuals are upscaled for the iPad and iPhone 5's retina displays. If you're wondering just what to expect from Vice City on iOS, check out these gameplay clips captured in glorious 1080p.

I have no idea how anyone can play games like this on a phone. As soon as I put my thumbs on the controls, I'm covering half the screen, and even then it's extremely difficult to control.
Can this be played on the iphone 4S? If so, how the heck do you control it? Is it worth playing on an iPhone?
Dont know whether anyone realises but there is an app for android called kainy which lets you play any pc games on your tablet/phone, pc needs to be switched on but as long as it is connected to the net you can pair it with your tab/phone and play it anywhere (best if you can get a wi-fi but 3g works ok too :) )
@torrne667 http://www.splashtop.com/home <- ios and android..really fast..step above vnc. if your router is set up properly you can play shooters without too much lag
@limbomasternegative tw@. works fine on my tab, maybe you should invest in better equipment ;) see obsequies comment.
@Ithrewupfire no man you wouldn't why should you. I think its set for release and iv heard rumors of a brand new vice city coming for vita only. :)
Oh the nostalgia keeps coming back to me each time i look at this!! Oh how i miss being 16 when i use to find myself stuck in the 80's playing this game 24/7!! XD
@Joe51187 its actually quite easy to control, they're pretty darn good for touch screen controls and they are fully customizable, you can resize and move all the virtual buttons around for your personal fit, driving is near flawless for me, the only thing is when your sprinting the virtual analog control can be a little finicky but other than that i have no complaints, escaping cops and jumping big ramps with no problem. I will say Vice City iOS is a huge improvement over GTAIII iOS, controls and graphics.
please dont get me wrong..... i have a tablet myself and a touchscreen phone capable of running this, but touchscreen controls are TERRIBLE for these kind of games! i really wish apple / android manafacturers would release some kind of controller peripheral that would make these kind of games actually playable. i know there are 3rd party controllers out there but they are not supported in the majority of apps. An industry standard controller that has to be supported by these kind of games is needed as an optional extra in my opinion. I'm talkiing about a kind of 'wrap around' peripheral... kinda like the extra analogue stick for 3ds.... surely it could be done?
it's such a shame as pretty much all tablets / phones are capable of amazing visuals..... but anything more than puzzle games are totally lost to me due to abysmal controls.
just my 2p.
I dont know what tablet you have mate, but i know that android tablets can be paired with ps3 controllers and if you plug an OTG cable in you can use a 360 controller.I'm not sure about the ipad cos i got rid of mine a while back to get my transformer tablet, never looked back :) It works Sooooo good with a ps3 controller. Also so does shadowgun.
that sounds good! can you use the ps3 controller with any game? i assume you need 3rd party software? I've only got an original kindle fire, which i'm not sure supports bluetooth.... although i've read elsewhere that it has it, but it's not available as standard without a bit of hacking. Failing that i could use my Xperia via the HDMI out and pop it on the tv.
thanks for the reply... gonna do my homework on it.
Wow...between this and Baldur's Gate, I'm thinking I may not need to buy a fancy laptop lol
Looks cool; I wonder how difficult the controls are as I remember quite a few finicky driving missions. I hope Rockstar can put some energy into getting the PS2 series onto the Vita, as well.
GTA V should bring back the prestige of this one. Vice City is still my all time favorite.
I've been playing it on ipad since it got released, hard to put it down, Rockstar needs to release SanAndreas on ipad next year
You won't likely see San Andreas on ipad and iOS until 2014 actually as don't know if you've noticed but they only bring these games over to these devices during their "10 year anniversary" from since their release!
I dont play games on my mobile.. Investing on games in this market sounds like a waste of money to me. I dont know why rockstar would spend time on this since the profits aren't that big

profits arnt bad in the mobile games market actually.
there are more idiots in the world then you think
@snova9308 "Than" ^^ you have a good point but the game isn't bad so only the stupid people would buy it, the game is fun and their is some people would like to play it again
"There are" ^^
Some people travel light and like to do something entertaining when they've had enough of reading for the day. But hey, go ahead and dismiss everyone who isn't you. Way to show your thought process to the world.
@XL2009 @snova9308 'There are some people'. Sorry couldn't resist. This game is a classic and well worth £2.99 to play it anywhere.
