As seen in the November issue of CGW.
Babe Ruth's power single-handedly changed baseball. Janis Joplin's banshee wail tipped the emotional balance of rock. And Jobs' and Wozniack's gamble on the Apple took computing from a technological priesthood and put it into the hands of the people.

Trailblazers like these reshaped the world in their image. They "thought different" and forced those who followed to do the same.

And that's how we feel about the following five games. Whether through pioneering graphics technology or new design concepts or redefining what can be considered a game at all, these five will leave ripples that will be felt throughout the industry for years to come.

Over the next few weeks, we'll count down CGW's picks for the five games that will change gaming, posting one game a week.

1. Freelancer
Chris Roberts is hard at work on a space combat game that could do for space sims what Diablo did for role-playing games.

2. Halo
Bungie is set to change how we look at games.

3. Black & White
Part three in the five part series turns to Peter Molyneux's Black and White.

4. The Sims
Will Wright turns his attention from the city to your living room.

5. Good and Evil
Ron Gilbert's return to gaming features a little bit of everything.
