Final Fantasy XIII-2 Walkthrough

Cocoon has fallen! Kweh! Our game guide for Final Fantasy XIII-2 features an in-depth walkthrough covering equipment, monsters, abilities, and more!

Main Story Walkthrough: A Dying World 700 AF

A Dying World 700 AF, Enemies: Apotamkin Pleuston, Pantopoda, Garganzola, Strigoi, Seeker, Metalicactuar

Suddenly, the Void Beyond transforms into a new location, A Dying World, in 700 AF.

Run through darkness to find noel, standing next to a downed behemoth. As it turns out, you're in Noel's dream world. Caius and him are hunting together as mentor and student respectively. Noel is training to replace Caius as the one True Guardian. When you regain the use of Mog, use him to reveal a hidden treasure sphere containing a map of the Dying World. Head southeast where you'll find a bunch of red figures. Using the Mog Hunt to reveal them results in their demise, which bares no consequence now, but may come into play later on.

Explore the map a bit. Around the corner where the world forks, there is a live trigger reward behind a small wall on the east side, just before the rectangular notch. It's the Promises Gate Seal. If you explore farther, you'll find an Oracle Drive. Nothing else to see here for the moment though. If you're interested in seeing what Chocolina has to offer, she can be revealed courtesy of Mog, just north of the sphere containing the area map. Next, follow Noel until he finds Caius. You'll gain control of Noel and battle Caius. Don't worry about the solo affair, it's a cinch to win; Caius only has 5,000 HP.

After the battle, you receive the Martyr's Emblem accessory. When you're back in control of Serah, follow Noel towards Yeul. As you follow him north, detour into the little arm breaking off the main map in the northwest. There is a treasure sphere containing an Obsidian Choker. Near a tree in the east is another, this time with ten Vitality Essences.

As you continue to follow Noel, he will begin to drift towards Valhalla. Serah pulls him back and reveals that she's there to save him from his dream state. After that scene, the both of you teleport to the middle of the map. Continue approaching Noel and the both of you will teleport two more times. When you end up near Chocolina, this is an indication that a boss fight will ensue the next time you interact with Noel. Restock, upgrade, and generally prepare for battle!

Boss Battle: Gogmagog
HP: 146400/ Strength: Poison / Weakness: None
Oddly enough, Gogmagog casts debuffs onto himself early in the fight. Eventually, he'll pass the savings onto you! He's capable of inflicting deshell, deprotect, defaith, debrave, fog, and pain. You'll likely want a medic trained in the ways of Esuna, if you didn't already have one in your paradigms for healing. It might not be a bad idea to keep two on hand to speed up the process. On that note, Gogmagog can heal himself, so continue assaulting him while keeping your own health in check; you don't want him to undo too much of your progress.
Common Drop: Potent Orb / Rare Drop: None / Reward: 0 CP, 0 Gil
Post Battle Spoils: Gogmagog Fragment Gamma

There's a LTE following the battle:

Live Trigger
"My life shortens each time I see the future. What should I say to noel?"
A or X
B or CIRCLE
X or SQUARE
Y or TRIANGLE
"Did Caius know?"
"I still want to change the future."
"What happens after death?"
"You need to take responsibility."

I chose: "You need to take responsibility." and was rewarded with the Crystal Rose adornment from the resulting LT reward cube.

With all that taken care of, continue following Noel towards the oracle drive. Activate the device and you'll be reunited with Mog, who was sent back from the Void by Lightning. Enter the spacetime distortion for the conclusion of Episode 5.

@shademalkovich There is more than 1 Oerba. there is 200AF, 300AF & 400AF. Not unlocked them all yet but you must be able to reach the water in 300 or 400AF

 @jensenaholic

you have to use the way stones in the shape of cactaurs.the weather has to be the way it was when you first got there to find the way stone to the other side, n Mog has to find it.

The weapon Sacred Cross is not "just north of the gate" its miles north of the gate, its at the opposite end of the western section of the map (where as the gate is in the furthest south-westerly position on the map).Make sure you realise this before proceeding. If you assume like i did it will be near the gate its not. youll have to go to the north of the western section first by the 3 toppled pillars marked on the map and then to the very south west  to the gate.

Bulletrush12
Bulletrush12

"the  little arm in the northwest" is actually in the north east....

Bulletrush12
Bulletrush12

You already have Beta and Gamma NOT Alpha and Gamma as stated at the top of the page. So you need alpha, delta and epsilon if you are using this guide ;)

tell me how can you have 4 paradigms for monsters when you only get a paradigm pack of 3? You have Ravager, Commando, Sentinel and Medic roles for the monsters in the table above but this is surely not possible.

@Bulletrush12 Some monsters, much like Noel and Serah, they can have more than one paradigm. Behemoths can be Commandos or Ravagers. Cait Siths can be medics or commandos. Sometimes three. It depends on if they are late bloomers, well grown, or early bloomers.

This guide helped a lot for myself and my husband. We enjoy the FF series, and he had gotten stuck in XIII-2 at Augusta 200AF the first time through, not sure where to go to use the Wild Artifact. ^^ This is a great guide.

Your Paradigm titles are all wrong on the Faeryl battle. Good editing ;)

This is turning out to be a game of little content, certainly not up to the level of FF#13. I can't recall another FF this shallow. On the positive side - IT'S FINAl FANTASY - STILL THE BEST RPG SERIES EVER.

Interesting opinions Fuego...Anyway, since you asked, you get it from the Mystic in Serendipity. You can acquire it after the conclusion of Episode 5. Our fragment skills page listed under primers has the requirements for each skill.
