Exploring Solstheim - Skryim: Dragonborn Gameplay Gallery
Venture to the island of Solstheim and get your very own dragon mount in Skyrim's Dragonborn expansion.
Inside the heart of every Dovahkiin flows the blood of a dragon, so it's only natural that many gamers have been clamoring to take to the skies with their winged kin. With The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's latest downloadable addition, they just got their wish. Dragonborn sees you travelling to the island of Solstheim, where you explore the fantastical mushroom settlement of Tel Mithryn, do battle with the goblin-like race of Rieklings, and learn the all-important new dragon shout that lets you bend dragons to your will.
Dragonborn is currently available on the Xbox 360. Bethesda has confirmed that the expansion will arrive on the PlayStation 3 and PC in early 2013.
Will you be taking to the skies and breathing death down upon your hapless enemies? Let us know in the comments below.
When not busy curating her novelty t-shirt collection, Sarah can be found shouting endless streams of nonsense into the great void of the internets. Greatest life achievement: finally having her very own crocheted Link hat.
@Baelath as far as I've seen just arrow ammo which is really stupid in my opinion since it does like 5 damage from the video I seen so its not like they are the dragonslayer arrows from Dark Souls.

@gizzy82 For me your reason's are irrelevant when choosing to buy or not to buy games from bethesda. You obviously love skyrim otherwise you would not by the dlc. Skyrim is a great game and everybody was predicting that the dlc would be better and bigger then skryim it self. Nearly everybody believed morrowind would be unlocked and renewed or something like that. When that did not happen a lot of people where dissapointed with dawnguard.(Heartfire was a disgrace). People have to many wishes for great dlc but that's just an illusion. If you dont by a game because the dlc sucks that's just WEIRD.
It will come on PS3 and PC if u wud just wait for 20 days or so. Also to let ppl fly dragons would be a huge dlc, cos dragons dont fly around wherever they want, they cn only remain in certain areas. So if u could fly a dragon then every 15 seconds u would have a lading screen as u travellled such a far distance.
You need to change this article's tagline. Getting a dragon mount implies that you can actually steer the damn thing. Which you can't. And I seriously can't believe all the morons defending Bethesda on this, saying "Well duurrr they never said you could actually control the dragon" like advertising dragon mounts and dragon riding doesn't imply that you can steer it.
No matter which console you are playing on; this game still kicks ass. A year later and I am without DLC and I am still getting new spells and searching new areas. 400 hours in playing leisurely.
GTAV can't get here soon enough. Maybe then the Skyrim news will start to fade away.
My only consolation in the fact that from Oblivion the TES games have plummeted to their ignoble depths of M-rating is that they really haven't budged from some of their annoying little hangups in terms of mechanics and that the graphics really haven't improved much compared to Morrowind...
Bloodmoon 2 = best idea ever. and anyone that has played Bloodmoon and helped found Raven Rock from the beginning, you should get a kick out of this dlc. Dragonborn is the best purchase of the year, and definitely worth the 20 bucks. Nostalgic to the max.
@Cryptic_Shadow if they had made it like ultima online or baldurs gate or diablo III there would be no problems. Trying to make such a vast world in 3D was clearly pushing the limits of the hardware, actually the hardware is teetering on the edge of the cliff with this game concept... lol
I almost wish they would have saved it for the next generation of game systems, the only problem with that is that they would probably push that hardware to it's breaking point also so i guess it's ridiculous to even state that wish... The graphics in Skyrim are not ground breaking by any means.
@00J @Cryptic_Shadow The PS3 isnt made out of poop. The developers named Bethesda are. You can thank them for all the issues with their less than stellar developing capabilities.
Hell us folks on the PC had to have modders make immense patches to fix all their issues and i am sure dragonborn will bring a new batch of gamebreaking bugs with it.
Modders will be busy the first 2 months building stuff to fix issues and minor stuff from the dlc.It is the next few months after that which will be time to watch.
That person really needs to learn how to use a bow.. Jesus that was painful. And, why the **** would you shoot a spear out of a bow? It looks really stupid and clunky. I will stick with my Elven or Glass arrows! Let's hope the world is good to explore
Meh, on PC we have spears, halberds, scythes and dragon mounts already. I want Dragonborn more for lore and exploring Solstheim.
I want to wield spears like a Hoplite, not shoot them out of a bow! Didn't we see the spear hand to hand combat mechanic demonstrated before?
@cortana64 spears are lame in dragonborn and feels lazy to me. why would I shoot a spear with a bow and why does it only do 10 damage. lame. and giving you a dragon to ride but not letting you steer is also lame.
@H0rizon @AlphaWolF_J Fully controllable dragons would be easier to make. Their idea is better.
@AlphaWolF_J Captain Obvious has joined the party with the ever more obvious point that console players do not have access to such things. Good thing we're on budgets here.
@cid67 @cortana64 Those are the only types of spears in the game? Also, if you can't steer your dragon, does it just fly randomly around the world or can you select which area to travel to and he flies you there?
@00J Except modders actually managed to put in dragon mounts you can control. So modders did what Bethesda couldn't do, for free.
@Falcon1093 @davetbeau @cid67 @cortana64 in defense of bethesda they really could not do much more than they did without re-writing the engine. They basically did what a modder would be able to do...
@Falcon1093 Although it is an interesting idea, I think I'll pass on the dragon riding then. Having full control would be wonderful. When I heard "spears", I thought they were incorporating the spear shown on Game Jam. Missed opportunity. Thanks for the reply.
@davetbeau @cid67 @cortana64 The dragons just fly around in a circle, basically. You tell them what to attack and they will do so. You can fast travel to places you've already been while riding a dragon. And the spears are only usable as spears by your enemies. When you try to use it, it turns into an arrow in your inventory. Its overhyped. We should be able to control the dragons. Is the gameplay still good? Certainly. It is the Elder Scrolls after all. But it is still a disappointment in terms of dragon riding.
