Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear For the sequel to its popular squad-base combat game, Red Storm Entertainment listened to fans of the original. The result promises to be a game that draws upon the strengths of the first game, while refining some of the weaker points, such as the interface and the artificial intelligence. Rogue Spear will include 16 single-player missions. This time around, the missions will be based on real-world terrorist situations. On display at E3 were missions set in a snowy base, an amphitheater, and a hijacked plane that has landed in a swamp to refuel. The locales are all true to life, with the plane being the standout example - every section was included and foreboded a very tense situation. Graphically, the game has been improved to a great extent. It will include new motions for characters, and team members can now crouch, hunch, lay prone, and peek around corners. Snipers have an especially cool new feature: they can sit to get better aim, though the position takes a dangerously long time to get out of. Animations are more fluid, and the game looks much better all around, complete with colored lighting and other benefits of 3D cards. Perhaps the most noticeable improvements are the two biggest faults of the original: the interface and the artificial intelligence. The interface is a much smoother and intuitive affair while at the same time giving you more control over your team's actions. And the artificial intelligence should be more robust, with enemies running for cover and attempting to move out of your line of sight - no more standing around waiting for the second headshot. Rogue Spear is still a long way from completion, but it's looking like a much-improved version of an already fun game. Developer/Publisher: Red Storm
