The Next Tetris
The object of the game is still dropping blocks and clearing lines to avoid the ever-menacing pileup of blocks that abruptly ends your game. This time, however, there are two ways to clear blocks: One is to make a horizontal line - like in the original game - and the other is to amass blocks of the same color - blue, red, and so on, so that they grab onto each and become one mass. The Next Tetris is scheduled for released this June.

Pandora's Box

In the grand tradition of Hodge 'n' Podge comes Pandora's Box, an all-new puzzle collection from Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov. Pandora's Box offers players ten main puzzle types that translate into some 350 individual puzzles. Rather than presenting the puzzles as stand-alone items (as in Pajitnov's earlier release, the Microsoft Puzzle Collection), this collection weaves them into a cohesive whole through a backstory that has the player traveling around the world to gather the missing pieces of the mythical Pandora's Box.

In our playtesting of a beta version, we found that even at this early stage, Pandora's Box is a highly polished, visually enticing package that will likely win many fans among casual (and laptop) gamers. While we didn't sample all the puzzle types, the ones we did look at were highly original and, on the whole, quite a lot of fun to play. In general, the puzzles we played could all be classified as variations on the jigsaw puzzle concept, but they each have significant twists that make them unique and compelling. For example, in one puzzle, the pieces can change size depending on where they placed; in another, rather than being placed, the pieces must be rotated around a circular disc until they are in the proper position.
